Newer Evo IXs vs Older Evo IXs.

When I got my car tuned, I noted something my tuner told me. He said my ECU map was the first generation of the Evo IXs. He then told this other guy, with a newer IX who was next for tuning on the dyno after me, that he has a newer ECU map. We had pretty similar mods: TBE, Boost Controller, Intake, UICP, Walbro, and BOVs. Although the other Evo IX had an AMS FMIC. So I got tuned, initially dynoed 289whp and 257wtq. After the tune I came out with 322whp and about 331wtq. I was satisfied - which took all of thirty minutes. So I stayed around to see if the other guy with the Evo 9 behind me would get better numbers. They strapped him in and he pulled higher numbers off the bat, I think it was his intercooler and LICP - which I didn't have. He pulled like 300 whp and about 260 wtq or so. Then when he went to tune it, the power started to die on the parasitic runs. He would come up with like 298whp and about 270wtq. The numbers would go back and forth. The tuner finally stated that it was due to his HKS RS, which he had problems with before, when tuning other cars. They agreed to tune the next day with either the stock air box or a diff. intake. Another strange thing I picked up about this whole thing is when looking under the hood of the other 9, which was about a month old. His manifold was coated?!! He said it came like that. It had a slight bluish hue as if it was coated for anti-corrosion purposes. That kinda ticked me off, in a way. I wonder what mitsu's up to with that and why he got coating? I also believe his ECU map may be making it more difficult to tune. Opinions?

Mitsu constantly makes revisions as the cars go on. We have no idea as of now but as time goes on we will see. Like the 6 bolt and 7 Bolt DSM's and if they had the Better rear and so on.

Yeah, I really want to know. He said the other guy was TWO revisions ahead of my ECU.

No, apparently the ECU map on the earlier IXs is easier to work with. The newer renditions have more inhibitors. I think Mitsu is using some of the Evo IXs to test out the Evo X ECU maps, etc. See how things workout in our cars before they mass produce something.

My manifold appears to be coated as well. It has the slight blue hue, almost Ti looking. I picked up my IX on July 1st, which I had ordered in April. I am not sure what the build date is. I do'nt plan on getting tuned until next summer, so hopefully they get everything worked out if there are differences.

I think there is more B.S. to this then truth, but each batch of Evo's is bound to have a few differences and so on. Like My 03 for instance. My Synchros were NEVER EVER and issue, neither was my Transfer case.

My Evo IX MR isn't even in the country yet, so I will have teh lastest and best of them AL MUUUUUUUUUUUUUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!.

Seriously there is always an inferiority complex and revisions, yet the oldest Evo's are the fastest. And hell as soon as I take delivery of my IX MR, there will be the SE, so I am fuct too, deal with it.

Heh. I don't fall for those SE Gimmicks or the Vortex Generators, etc. They all have the 4G63, they all have the same drivetrain, minus the gear box. I don't want Bilsteins since I will be adding Tein's, it woulda been a waste. The 6 speed to me isn't a good thing. The 5 speed was in the original Evo 1 and remained consistent until the Evo 8 MR. So, I am pretty confident in it, being that it has been around for a long time. Not only that, the 5 speed seems to be better in the 1/4, I don't have to shift into 5th. At the track I've seen MRs getting beaten by cars with about 20 less whp just because of that shift.

+1 Too many ppl over-think this stuff. All cars will have their own personalities and differences. HP will vary always.

For me..... I could care less. My map = Al from Dynoflash

Yeah, but my car isn't stock. I didn't plan on leaving it stock, either. I run a 1/4 in 4 gears, they run it in 5. That shift hurts their trap and E/T.
