Yea bro, i have seen the same thing. It seems that when it cools off it doesnt pop down so i am guessing it is just the heat that does it. I have a IX MR so same deal here, i might go to mitsu and see what they say about it but i dont think there is much they can do with the scortching heat.

Yesterday, I experienced the same thing I thought someone had the opened my door and hit the sunglass holder open to look for something to steal (forgot to lock door). But then again no one around my delvelopment would do that to my car. Cause I would give them a *** whopping they wont forget. : )

75% Fix... Worth a paperclip.
75% Better Fix for SUnglasses Holder (Still opens when smacked but stays close while driving) (Had the EVO 1 month)
While I am happier about this, some of you may still want to improve on this, but it is definately much better.
The black latch is very poorly designed and I believe the Mitsu spring is much too weak.
Steps:
1. Take out sunglasses holder. (my IX was 2 10mm bolts and one screw)
2. Take out side screw holding latch(black) and spring.
a. Don't lose the metal "bolt" on the other side of the screw. (kind of important)
3. Make new torsion spring out of paperclip. Wrap clip arround PH1 screwdriver (same diameter as coller on screw).
a. Only wrap three times as this will allow you to start threads on screw
b. cut new torsion spring to fit on snap (look at picture to show length of legs)
4. "Widdle" or ream out the shelf on black latch to make a slightly larger shelf for the pin (not removed) to hook on.
a. I did maybe 1/32 or 1/16 of an inch.
b. I used a drill bit by hand and knocked off a little plastic (see Picture) but a small hobby file would work also.
5. Find some small hands and put it back together.
6. Adjust the tension on the screw to allow it to open normally but not stick closed.
a. Mine was just slightly snug.
b. Also might want some thread locker on it but your call.
I am pretty happy with this and it is definately better (for me) than Mitsu warranty.
Perform at your own risk and good luck.

My sunglass holder popped open today for the first time and did so several times on the drive home from work. Did the paper clip mod before reading this post. Holds it closed but wont open. Thats ok with me, too small to fit any sunglasses in anyways. 1st official problem with my 05 mr
