Buschur Racing's 14th Annual DSM Shootout review.

Well another year has come and gone. What a year it was. I am guess from the look of the crowd it was by far the largest shootout we ever had. Unbelievable turn out.

People started coming in on Friday. One of which was Curt Brown for me to tune his car. The car is now running one of our Stage 3, 2 liter engines. It made for a hell of a start to the weekend. 650 whp on our dyno with a GT35R. I honestly thought the dyno was wrong but didn't tell Curt.

Saturday came and our small town of Wakeman's population probably almost doubled. I am going to say atleast 700 people came through. We had a sign up sheet for 30 cars for the dyno and did them all. Started at around 9 am and ran through around 6pm. Very busy day. I loaded my RS on the dyno to prove a point to a few guys and it layed down 450-450, at this point I was pretty sure our dyno was definetly messed up. I had changed some things but did not expect it to make that. We had thrown an alky kit on Trent's car and I street tuned it very quickly. He loaded his car and it made 390 whp-413 ft lbs on 93+alky, his car also equipped with our 20g. I was fairly certain now it had to be messed up, the dyno that is King of the Dyno went to our car when it made 798 whp.

This bring us to today. Sunday.

We wanted to get on the track right away knowing our chances were better in the morning air to crack into the 8's. Also knew with AMS there it was going to be a battle to see who got there first.

Our first pass was 9.1 at 164 mph. Best MPH yet, but not the ET we wanted. Daniel and I discussed it and decided to run the car as much as needed to try to get into the 8's. He made another run 9.2 at 164 mph. Then another 9.1 at 164 mph. We were not too happy. AMS had gone out 2 times and the car was breaking up giving them problems. Daniel asked me to raise the two step 200 rpm. I did it. He went up for a Q16 qualifier and ran 8.95 at 163.00 mph. First in the 8's. To say we were happy would be a complete understatement. I went freaking crazy and so did the stands full of people. It was incredible.

Next stop was to see if we could lend a hand to the guys at AMS. They were having some troubles and I thought we could help. Turns out I was right as the next run the car motored down the track only to break a front axle. Ted, one of our guys and Eric from AMS ran to our shop to try to find one, we didn't have it. They got one from a customers car and installed it. Next round the car was running clean and ran 9.15 at 165 mph. I will let Martin tell more of the story if he chooses.

We ended up being beaten by Marco in the 2nd round of Q16. I warned my brother that Marco was an experienced racer and would cut a good light. Daniel ended up treeing him but the EVO worked it's was towards the center line and Daniel said it felt like the power was falling off, he shifted to fourth, got passed and he lifted. It was our only poor pass of the day. Marco won with an 8.8. Great job Marco.

Bent Rau came out with his OSOFAST 2G Eclipse. Ran a 7.00 at 198 mph. Brent is one talented driver. How he drives that car on the rear wheels that far out of the groove is beyond me! Great job.

John Shepherd was there too. The first pass was just a little teaser to check his boost levels. The car has our 2 liter engine in it. Second pass he ripped off a new record and it was done without nitrous. 7.95 at 182.2 mph. Unbelievable John, great job!

Back to our dyno being out of whack.

Curt's first run was soft. 9.6 at 141. He asked me to look at the log from the tune I gave him. He shifted to 5th and took it easy. Ends up running 9.3 at 151 mph, running a new GT35R record. 1.40 sixty foot time. Absolutely amazing. Very proud to be helping you out with the engine and tuning Curt. Also would like to add that he loaded the car up with all his parts/tools, tires/wheels and headed out for about a 3-4 drive home in it at the end of the day! Curt, you're an animal.

Next up was Trent. His friend Chris was driving the car to consistent 11.50's. Trent jumped in it and ran (3) 11.30's at 122 mph. What is amazing about this is it is an off the shelf 20G, STOCK BOTTOM END, STOCK HEAD, STOCK VALVE SPRINGS, STOCK INTAKE, STOCK THROTTLE BODY. It has never been apart more than the valve cover. It is running on 93 octane + alcohol and he drives it 122 miles a day round trip to work, every day. The car is not lightened. Had our Stage 4 kit, AEM EMS, 20g, SS 02 housing. Chris was runner up in the DSM Stock Appearing class to my RS. Which brings me too.......

My RS. I know I can't drive so I put Kevin Lawson in the car. He ended up in the finals against Trent's car in EVO Stock Appearing. For fun Trent suggested we run the finals like an episode of Pinks. We let Chris stage Trent's car with the rear wheels while we staged normal with our front wheels. Kevin ended up winning in my car, we were winners either way with an all Buschur Final in this class. For the really impressive news, my car ran a 10.8 at 128 mph. Also ran two 10.9's at 127 and 128 mph. The car is freaking impressive, I love my EVO

Nick Andy, this is the car that I recently posted made 515 on pump and 625 on race gas. It ran really well but with no traction and a transmission that continued to pop out of first gear when you launch it a great ET wasn't had. A great MPH was and this full weight EVO ran 139 mph in the 1/4 with an ET of 11.3 seconds. Nick loaded the car up with his gear and drove it home. About 6 hours.

Kevin Lawson. Driver of my RS. He brought his Eagle Talon out of retirement and we put an AEM on it this week and a new turbo. I guessed at the fuel map, loaded it on the dyno and within 3 pulls it made 550 whp. First pass down the track it ran 10.4 at 137 mph. Bad news was it had a hole in the radiator and the car was sidelined for the event. Good news is Kevin ran that 10.8 in my RS! Sorry your car broke Kevin, thanks for driving mine

Ed Puskaric was there with his BR350. Stock clutch and all he ran some 12.6's at 107 mph.

Our Time Attack car was on display. Trent made some passes in it. It is still set up to turn as we haven't touched it since Summit Point. It was funny to watch it smoke the (4) 10+" wide tires when it launched. Ran a best of 11.44 at 120 mph. The car needs a larger turbo for sure. Consider that done Still nice for the 20g, moderate boost, road race alignment and it not being built/setup for drags.

Great Shootout. Great time. This was the most enjoyable shootout I can remember having in a very long time.

Thanks for all of you that attended. Looking forward to next year already.

Next stop 8.5's with the black car

Other details.

There were 33 cars trying for a spot in the Q16 class this year. The #1 qualifier was our EVO at 8.95 and the top speed was also our EVO at 164.13 mph.

#16 spot went to Bill Lowe with a 11.43 @ 131.96 mph.

Congrats Man, it was awesome talking to you after the 8 sec pass was run. You sounded calm, cool, and collected . It's Amazing that you told me you were going to be in 8 sec, and I had no doubt in my mind you would do it. Mad Props to you and your team for your hard work and dedication. It goes to show how quickly you got their from building the Drag car late in the game.

Curt you are an ANIMAL. I knew you were going to set a record, holly Toledo that is just plain Nutz.

Next year without a doubt I will be their to drink one with you guys . I will not miss it for the world .

"Impressive" would be an understatement. Sounds like everybody stepped up to the plate and brought their A game.

It is just insane seeing a car exactly like mine go down the track that fast. Almost seems like a dream.

Congrats to Dan "the man" for piloting that beast to yet another record breaking run.

Congrats to Curt Brown for doing what others could only dream of.

Shep, well we all know what a crazy sob he is. I can't wait to see him run the happy gas SOON!

Brent Rau is... In a league of his own!

Dave has helped me get my car to the monster I dreamed about many years ago. It will hopefully be up and running soon so stayed tuned for more Buschur cars in the record books.

Dave, I owe you guys a beer when and if I ever find the time to get my *** up to Ohio.
