The hood on my integra saved me 10 lbs
Another thing to consider is lexan windows. That saves ALOT of weight and its all off the top of the car where you should be removing weight from.
You have to remember a total drop in weight is not as important as where the weight is coming off of. If you are a straight drag racer I guess it doesn't matter too much, but if doing any other kind of driving besides that you want the car to remain balanced instead of removing a lot of weight from one specific area.
As far as not going too far on a daily driver I guess that is sort of subjective because I drive my integra on the street when I need to and it has absolutely nothing in it. It's pretty much a can.
I guess if you are willing to put in the time, but not willing to sacrifice the "look" of the stock car, you would be best to remove all the tar from the bottom of the car and under the carpet. That saves a good amount. Don't forget the wheel wells. And yes it will take a really long long long long time to get it out.
I have found one of the easiest ways to save weight is losing weight on your body. I know it sounds stupid but seriously, it's free, takes just as much work as removing the tar and you will look and feel better
