Weight Reduction! Need Ideas!

hey everyone!

basically what i want to know is...

I have an Evo IX MR. The only weight reduction so far is in the TBE.

How can i get this car down to under 3000 lbs?

i basically want to know if it is possible to shed like 200-300 lbs off the car, without going too ape ****. It is a daily driver.

i dont care too much about practicality, but i also dont want the car to be useless.

i DO want to keep both front seats, lol

it all depends how far you want to go with stripping it. A few ideas are to take out the spare tire and jack, rear window wiper, window washer fluid resivor(sp?). A few thigs to do that may NOT be safe for a daily are to take both front and rear crash guards off (about 30lbs each), say bye to your power steering, take out the airbags(~10lbs). Now is $$ is not the issue, buy a carbon fiber trunk (~10lbs lighter). There's an endless possibility of thigs you could do, but if it's gonna be a daily driver, safety is MORE important than making your car lighter...good luck.

im kinda experimenting with some stuff with the honda boys and their integras type s. one of them is currently removing the impact bars on the side doors and spraying soft foam that hardens which will reduce weight and stiffen the structure without degrading safety. obviously its damn illegal but its just for fun but i'll let ppl know if that goes ok. if all goes well my evo will be next. other things that comes to mind is CF but it wont do much to the bonnet or trunk since its already lighten. could try suspension/rotors. i took the spare wheel out of my car and replaced it with a liquid sealer/compress air which should be good enough to get it to the workshop if something happens. cant really think of anything else atm mate

Hate to say this, but this has been covered before, run a search.

Go here for some good info:
http://www.buschurracing.com/weight-reduction.htm

a few parts off the top of my head: Lighter Wheels, flywheel, brakes, remove crash bars, Ti exhaust + Cat delete, Ti strut bar, lighter seats, Carbon trunk and hood, Mini Battery <-- an easy 20lbs off, remove trunk mat and spare tire and tools.

Good luck

My car weighs 3,065 lbs with full interior and almost 1/2 tank of gas. It is possible.

I plan on getting the car to under 3000lbs too.

i have done lots of whats on that list...i have turbo upgrade kit (equal length thick walled and heavier then stock), 4 point bolt in and rear seats (still have the pass. side airbag),no A/c and my car was 3040 at norwalk with almost half tank of gas....stock rotors also (well upgraded but not aluminum hat rotors). i also went to non-hid headlights, no crash beams , i have carpet but no carpet padding , spaco steering wheel ,no sound deadener and so on...but the 4 point cage alone added some decent weight back in so i was happy with 3040lbs without me.
