How many of you will be keeping your Evo?
#76
i've been debating on whether to keep my '05GSR/ssl. i bought it brand new and it has 10k miles on it now but i was never really impressed with the stock power because i drove a supercharged mustang before. I couldnt stand it so I installed the buschur stage 1 after 1500mi and it helped out a lot with power along with setting off car alarms . i'm adding a 3076R BB turbo and Race intercooler next weekend so i'm hoping that will make me want to keep it.

in my opinion the evo stands for certain attributes that fascinate me.
there will always be better performing cars but at what price?
it is one real sportscar for the masses at under 30 K thats what i love.
everything more is worthless.

I know for me, the 4G63 has always been an incredible motor. I had it in my Eclipse GSX before the Evo and I drove that until it had 98k on it, never one damn problem with the motor and it always ran strong. The 4G63 has been around 1988 when it was in the first Evo and is one of the most proven blocks in the world so it should make a difference. You never know what might happen with a design change and the 4G63 is really the only thing that Mitsu has had going for it engine-wise.
It's a dinosaur and heavy as hell but when you perfect something you're only starting over again when something new comes around.

Generally, the bulk of the postings on EvoM seem to come from lifestyle buyers. The lifestyle buyer is relatively young, thrives on the Evo's street cred, concerned with fitting in, impressing his friends and being noticed, measures his success in the Stoplight Grand Prix or in a no-skill contest of stupidity like a highway pull, likes the bragging rights associated with high horsepower numbers, and tends to mod his car cosmetically as per the status quo in his community.
The congnitive dissidence (if you will) that comes into pay stems from the Evo not being an overly inviting vehicle for those who don't necessarily savor its high-performance attributes and the resulting dynamics. Meaning, the Evo's performance dominates all other facets of its operation, which are geared to (errr...) high-performance. This includes the sparse interior, the suspension tuning, etc. Once the trendiness of the Evo wears-off, those cars will be replaced with something different.

Yea I'll be keeping mine for a while. However I agree with this /\ 100%, I feel it is acurate and very true to most of us. I like going fast, racing and modding cars. when time comes and money permits me to buy what ever else is the new top of the line car (dominating rice and over priced luxury) I will.

I'll most likely keep mine and turn it into a track only car when i've got the cash to buy another vehicle for better daily use. I'll probably end up buying another luxury car like my previous Audi since it will be perfect for the business i'm in. Everyone at my work drives German (Audi, Benz, BMW, Porsche) or Italian (Ferrari).
.... i've still got the fastest car at work other than the ones owned by Claus Ettensberger. (Brabus K8 Rocket, Novitec F430, TechArt Magnum, Porsche 997TT)
Got money? heh...

If I pick up the IX shortly here I'll keep her till i pay her off...Then look into the new GT-R and if it's promising I'll trade the evo in and make the GT-R my track monster/weekend cruiser....If the new GT-R Sucks a D....Then I'm making the evo the track monster and pickin up something nice for a daily driver. I'm kinda hoping Audi releases there 1.9L TDI to the states...Gotta love the mileage that turbo diesel makes 49miles per gallon!!!!

I had a lot of problems with my evo from the get go. Buyt its been running great since I got over that hump. Since the first time i saw one at the car show in ny before released in the states I had to have. I feel like it will be a collectors item one day. Its just one of those cars. Im stuck in a high payment now, and might actually concider getting rid of it to free up some money. But at the same time there is nothing else out there that would make me happy. Im looking into other measures of keeping it and dropping my payment, and keeping it forever. The only thing that would probably make me concider getting rid of it is a porshe turbo. I dont think X is going in the direction that attracts me to why I like the evo. I dunno either way, I dont mind keeping it forever. But I always have my eyes open.
