Quick Question

A buddy of mine just bought a brand new Type S. However this is his first manual car and he is learning to drive stick shift. Keep in mind that this is a brand new RSX and has not been broken in yet. How bad is it on the motor to keep stalling out and stressing the engine like that?

Not so good. I mean...if he is stalling hard where the tranny is stopping the car and he is constantly starting the car and trying it again, then I would seriously sit next to him and help him out..I'm sure he's reved the **** out of it and slipped the clutch more than necessary.....I learned on a beat up toyota pickup. Put him in any other manual beater car or someone elses car who doesnt mind some abuse teaching a newbie how to use a clutch.

Just a suggestion. He'll get it I'm sure.

Yeah I guess there's nothing else like the smell of a brand new car.... and a burning clutch heh.

It's either he learns in his RSX or my Evo, and I'd rather not have him anywhere near my car at the moment.

^Agreed....then be a friend and show him/teach him some pointers...engagement point and clutch and throttle modulation and use of the e-brake from a dead stop (especially for newbies on a hill, any kind of incline or for that intimidating SUV occupying the entire rearview mirror - MOST newbies on a cluth think they will roll backwards even on level ground once they let it out).

Good Luck!
