smelly a/c ?

does anybody else experience a weird almost mildewy smell when the A/C is on ? its not horribly bad but it smells funny enough to notice. I just noticed this last night and I am just wondering if it is "normal" ? And if anybody else has experienced this. thanks

I get a weird smell for about 5 seconds when I first start up the car during the day. After that it smells normal again.

Its a Mitsu thing. My wife's Montero used to do that too. It happens when you switch from just fan air to A/C air sometimes. I hate it.

i figured that maybe it was a mitsu thing but thanks for the responses guys ! I just wanted to make sure it wasnt just my car. But what i find kind of odd is that it just started doing this at 4k miles, i dont think it was doing this when i first got the car. But then again maybe i just didnt notice it.

All AC systems do this. Its normal. BG sells stuff called Fridgi Fresh that you can spray into the system with it on that will make it smell better will even kill any mold or bacteria that could have formed from the dampness.

I've noticed more of that problem lately in my lancer OZ. Anything to do with the in-cabin air filter??

the problem is that if you just shut your car off with the AC on you can get condensation in the lines and such, a good way to prevent the smell is to shut the AC before shutting of the car.

i.e. turn the fan on full blast till the air goes warm, before turning of the car

good luck.

usually that also happens if you leave your air off for long periods of time. Air just sits there until you turn it on, and you usually get an odd smell. I usually just leave my fan on 1 just to keep air circulating through the system whenever i drive.

I don't have any odor but I notice if I have my air on going through the carwash I get a little water leaking in on the passanger side floor up under the dash. I would imagine if water can get in you could get an odor.

I had this back in 2003. Mits had some flyers in thier waiting room. Its a can of odor Be Gone or somthing. They spray it in the ac somehwere.

Its from build up of mold. Ick

But it did work for me,, check out your Mits parts department.

i just turn on the heater after using the a/c and let the fan blow to evaporate the cold air. i usually do this when letting the car cool down after driving.
