Tuning an Evo down?

Tuning an Evo down?
What is the minimum of boost the Evo would run on? If you wanted to dial it down for say a long trip to get better mileage, could you get an EMS and lower the boost and such and get like over 30 mpg? or will the motor not run right?

You dont need to turn down the boost - that will cause you to run richer and crappy. If you want good mileage - get a honda. Oh, for a Evo - keep your foot out of the boost, you should be able to get 20-24mph

[QUOTE=Methodical4u]Ummm yeah I know that... i'm asking about long trips... I may not want to burn the **** out of my car all the time.. ya know?[/QUOTE
Just dont boost it on those long trips. You wont burn the **** out of anything the EVO was built to be boosted unless your abusing it you wont burn the **** out of it.

Yea everyones right, as long as your not hammering it all the time you will get good mileage...If you have a boost gauge you will notice that you will be in vacum not boost if your just crusing....

The minimum boost you could run would be turning the boost all the way off with a MBC and run off the wastegate spring. That should be somewhere around 11-14 psi (I can't remember right now)
As others have said, I wouldn't recommend this. The best way to get good gas mileage is to have a really good custom tune where the A/F ratio is leaned out perfectly and then to drive it in a conservative manner. Stay off the boost and keep it in the bigger gears.
Cruise control would also help alot but that really isn't an option with these cars

Having a well visible boost gauge might help you. You'd be surprised how sneaky boost is with the evo.
If you are willing spend a few grand on an EMS and tuning just for 30mpg, how about you just get an old civic hatch instead?

Wow, don't kill the guy cause he wants a car to get good gas mileage.
There is no reason for your EVO to get crappy mileage. If you are trying to get the best mileage you can then run the engine at the lowest rpm's you can and at the lowest load. A boost gauge that shows vacuum on it will help, try to keep the car in the lowest vacuum readings that you can.
