I plan to go with a high-flow cat for emissions purposes. You can just unbolt a test pipe and put your cat back in, clear your codes, and go pass emissions ... but I probably won't feel like doing that when the time comes. It's not worth it to me for an additional ~2hp on a mostly stock car.

You'll probably find that a few people have both for this purpose. The stock cat will most likely not mate up to a 3" aftermarket TBE. So, you've got to have a 3" cat to swap in for emissions testing.

But, I also do not yet have an Evo and do not really know ...

what you should do, instead of wasting a grand on an exhaust system. get yourself an HKS hi power or carbon TI muffler, and get costum mandrel bent piping made with it. it would run you somewhere between $300 to $400 bucks. i mean i cant see wasting that kind of money.

Well, the same reason why someone would buy a Rolex or a Patek Phillipe when your average Seiko tells the time just as well - or better.

IMO catbacks are bought mainly cos they sound a little more agressive than the stock and if that's all you're after then frankly, you're lucky.

Titanium is a lot lighter man thats why people choose it. And it is expensive. Some people buy catbacks because maybe their favorite exhaust does not come in turbo back form and they do sell downpipes alone for a reason

The only reason really for a cat-back is the sound. It's like gettting a straw that's bigger at one end and expecting to drink faster, just doesn't make sense. If you're going TBE, get a high-flow cat. If you're new to performance cars, you won't like the sound or smell of the test pipe. I don't know what emissions are like where you are, but it's a pain in the *** to switch out that test pipe for a cat if you don't have access to a lift or know what you're doing for that matter.

Bottom line, TBE = performance, cat-back = sound/looks.

And don't forget if you run a test pipe, you'll have that great smell when you're stopped!

I love the BR TBE is fairly cheap, lighter then stock and has a good sound. I have had it on my EVO for a while now and have had no problems. And IMO if you live in a state which requires inspection the TBE exhaust is the better choice.

I was looking at the tanabe concept g blue and the junb.l....i opted for the TurboXS , great fitment and a great sound, i didnt want to commit to a test pipe right now because a)stock car b) don't want to deal with the police 3) flat *** broke.

So if your not ready to commit to a test pipe, the TurboXs is an awsome piece.
