540whp estimate, 128mph trapspeed, 11.2 ET, letting off twice to slipping clutch.

Pistons are perfect as the day I bought the car.

Datalogging, Tuning, Monitoring, Safeguards.

Detonation breaks ****... Period.

we need pics yo.. i say maybe your meth failed to spray and you had all that air coming in with no where to go but the combustion chamber and BOOM.. to much stress on the piston and it weakened out causing it to give.. good luck with the your Evo and NO.!! MR's are not superior.. I have an MR and is just the same as my buddies RS.. except for the acessories, and the tranny..

water/MeOH does wonders in the combustion chamber

thank TTP couldn't have said it better, Its the TUNE that breaks a car, not the driver.

STILL YOU CAN BLOW THE ENGINE WITH GOOD TUNE AND GOOD A/F RATIO,,,,,,ITS JUST THAT TOO MUCH STRESS ADDED TO THE WEAK PISTON
Hint: You can't do 100mph in 1st gear banging off the limiter. Tapping the limiter is bad on the motor mmmmkay?

In all fairness, I did clean them up a LITTLE. But they looked virtually the same before. Meth does keep cylinders carbon deposit free for the most part.

I do have to comment that I've seen some unusual piston failures on Evos. On most cars, the ring lands will break up and result in compression failure. But on at least two Evos I've seen pistons cracked in half, a straight line right across the top of the piston. It makes me wonder if the Evo pistons are not as strong across the piston face -- or stronger in the ring lands than most.

Anyway, I agree that detonation breaks engines. And trying to squeeze 350+ out of a stock motor on pump gas WILL result in detonation. Even with methanol, 370 awhp is huge power, and one detonation incident could be catastrophic.

Detonation breaks pistons. It is no doubt what we are looking at.

The local piston failures have been from meth injection failures or lack of turning the system on before boosting 28psi.

are the pistons in the evo cast or forged?

Exceeding the physical limitations of the rods is the next step in a Evo tuned to its stock motor limit.

When the bearings look perfect but you have this problem, you have too much power and torque, period.
