I do have to comment that I've seen some unusual piston failures on Evos. On most cars, the ring lands will break up and result in compression failure. But on at least two Evos I've seen pistons cracked in half, a straight line right across the top of the piston. It makes me wonder if the Evo pistons are not as strong across the piston face -- or stronger in the ring lands than most.
its not only me complaniting about our weak piston!

ill have to agree with al and machv on the random cracked piston as it just happend to me tune was 100% perfect was on 110oct no knock no nothing and it went.
however i have about everything on the car but a new turbo so it is in no way stock and i know u gotta pay to play. So i just finished 3 days ago building the entire thing now its beyond bulletproof hahahahahahahahaha

Jesus. There have been plenty of people hat have made over 400hp on the stock bottom end. DOnt be stupid. Your tune was off. Period. Knock or detenation or something had to happen for the piston to "fail"

I believe it depends on the tune, as others have said. From what I believe and read, these motors enjoy lots of boost with not much advance. When tuned for more boost and not paying good attention to the timing (or adding some) the motors will most likely go pretty fast.

ok well there is always a chance to blow a motor... the fact remains that the 4G63 is the strongest 4 cylinder motor on the market, period. if you want some serious hp's and want reliability then be prepaired to bulletproof the block...but it could blow after that too. just cross your fingers!!!

Well I would assume that someone making 370whp on a stock Motor will be TUned correctly and not have any knock.
Now if you had that power with good gas and no knock and your Piston went to shiet then there's a problem. And what do you guys mean by this Engine is the strongest 4 Banger in the mArket?
Where is the proof of that? Last time I checked 400whp wasnt record breaking.
