Agreed. I tend to gently tap hit the brakes or get off the gas when I get a Ka alert. It's an instinct, now. Often I do it even when I'm not speeding.

I swear, having a radar detector makes me drive a lot slower; it really makes me conscious of speeding. It's sort of like having Jiminy Cricket on my shoulder.

Exactly, I'm all for driving fast and enjoying my high performance car, but enough tickets will humble anybody.

I don't understand where you get 90% compared to the V1? Do you have imperical evidence to back this up?

I had a 8500 X50 and liked it, but the V1 has the arrow features which I find is very helpful. If I had to chose again I would go straight to the V1

Valentine 1 man.... both my brothers, my mom and cousin have it. I had the 8500 for 3 months, borrowed a V1, bought it the next day.

I pulled it straight out of my ***. Sensitivity is probably 100% equal. I took off 10% for the lack of: (1) Upgradability (as far as I know); (2) Directional arrows; (3) Magnesium case; (4) Rear-facing radar detector; (5) High resale value; (6) Elegant, unified front-panel controls; (7) Optional remote display and headphone adapter; and (8) Bad-*** looks.

I think I was charitable in valuing those deficiences at only 10%, but I know others will disagree, which is why I said it was "just my opinion."

I have an X50 but would buy a V1. The X50 has a laser defect with the STI and Evo and I assume other turbo cars. When yhe radar is not new any more the laser goes of whenever your at WOT and your turbo is spooling. I had it recalibrated but it started doing it again after a few months so I just turned of the laser detector . The X50 laser warning is the most annoying sound in the world, besides barbara streisands voice, and it freaks you out because it makes you think your busted everytime you go WOT. There's a thread about this deffect with the X50 if you search. I also heard you can send the V1 one in to get the chip upgraded whenever their technology changes, instead of having to buy a new X50. Spend the extra cash and get the better product.

I have the X50 8500 and it works fine but I also added the ZR3 jammer and it works great. If police are sitting there with the radar unit off and along you come at 90 or so and he has you in site it doesn't matter what unit you have cause your caught.

With the ZR3 when they hit you they get nothing NO READING which by the way happens sometimes anyway. Meanwhile you have picked them up when they hit you and you slow down and reset the jammer and let them hit you again when your back down to legal speed limit.

Passport and a few other company's sell these type units and yes they are not cheap but then again going 80, 90, 100 + as many of us do when we get the urge to get on our cars and of course never street race Spend a little more for protection or spend it on fines, insurance lawyers etc.

Just my 2 cents

Of course, using a (genuine) radar jammer is a federal offense ...

Edit: I just looked it up, and the Escort ZR3 appears to be a laser jammer, not a radar jammer, as you seemed to say. Anyhow, as I understand it, a laser jammer is not illegal. But using a real radar jammer is against the FCC regulations and thus a federal offense.

The local constabulary around here does not seem to use laser...
