has anyone ever been ticketed with the officer using laser? I thought it was a fad that passed.

Yes, and detectors are useless agains't laser. That laser jammer sounds like a good investment.

Yes, the only speeding tickets I've had are from laser because its too late to slow down once you see the warning. Cops mainly only use it on straight aways because they can get you from far away before you can see them. Plus they have to be sitting still and aiming it at you while radar they can be driving or just looking the other way while the gun is mounted on the car constantly shooting.

Must be an east coast thing. I haven't seen them on the west coast. The jammer does sound like a good idea.

I think I was charitable in valuing those deficiences at only 10%, but I know others will disagree, which is why I said it was "just my opinion."

Ahh..I gotcha. Well allow me if you will to correct you on a few items. My X50 is upgradeable, has 360 degree coverage, and has a headphone plug-in.
Magnesium case huh? Well I can't say how much that would help me since I don't leave my detector in the windshield unless I'm driving. Also the power cord has an indicator and mute button so you don't have to lean foward.
And of course looks are subjective, I prefer the sleek design of the 8500 vs the boxy look of the V1.

And there are a few people who've had trouble with the laser portion of the X50's when they hit WOT. I am not one of those people. Bell will adjust the sensitivity free of charge if your unit does this and is still under warranty.

If you want the best, get a V1 for the best radar/laser detection and get a separate laser jammer because no combo radar/laser detector/laser jammer is worth it. This $450 laser jammer is the best in the world and it just came out recently. It goes by the name of AntiLaser Guardian (AL G8).

http://www.antilaser.info/en_products.htm

It also is sold as the Laser Pro Park in another country:

http://www.laserprotector.com/default.asp

Read about it here:

http://www.radardetector.net/viewfor...21 5749af1c0c 7748

Check the videos of it in action here:

http://www.radardetector.net/viewfor...72 15749af1c0 c7748

The AL6 prototype was tested below and it almost jammed every laser gun to the gun except for one and they have already fixed that problem with the AL G8.

If you want to save money on a new Valentine One:

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.856 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

Your X50 is not upgradeable, that is what they said about the original 8500 and when the 8500 X50 came out they said you couldn't upgrade you had to buy a new one.

The 360 degree coverage you talk about is marketing crap from Escort and Bel because they only have 1 antenna to detect radar unlike the V1 which has 2 antennas for true 360 degree protection.

Magnesium is better than plastic because it will protect your electronics from heat and interference from other electronic devices not to mention it will survive better if it is dropped on accident.

I am glad you like the "sleek" design of the X50 but it is too long and heavy which makes it bounce up and down on your windshield.

As hard as it might be to believe, the Valentine One, 16.20 cu. in., is smaller than the Escort X50, 18.95 cu. in., and the Bel RX65, 16.33 cu. in., and also the Bel STi, 16.33 cu. in. The Valentine One is wider because it has 2 antennas and not 1 like every other radar detector, but it is shorter and not as tall which gives you more mounting options.

As far as weight goes,

Valentine One -> 181.5g (6.40 ounces)
Escort 8500 X50 -> 253.7g (8.95 ounces)
Beltronics RX65 Pro -> 236.6g (8.35 ounces)
Beltronics STi Driver -> 291.6g ( 10.29 ounces)

As you can see, the 8500 X50 is the largest in size and the Bel STi Driver is the heaviest. The Valentine One is the smallest and lightest radar detector of the Top 4 radar detectors made today.

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't care. I saved $150 by going with the X50 vs V1. Independant research stated both models are nearly identical in range and detection. As I said before, I will save my $150 for other mods and use common sense when I hear an alert.

You need that $150 when your X50 breaks and you can't get an upgrade but if you had invested in a V1, you would send it in and they would fix it and upgrade it for free.

+1 for the x50. My 8500 was great. Never had problems with it. The x50 is even better.
