They made the mustangs for many years after the 64.5 model year, right? So evnthough the car was produced and updated many times over the years, the 64.5 is still collectible.
The truth is, there is no way to tell if a car will be collectible in the future.
Slowed deprecitation over the short term can't even tell you if it will be collectible in 30 years time. It just lets you know that the demand for the car in the short term remains high.
Production numbers can't tell you if the car will be collectible. There are cars that were made in the hundreds of thousands that are collectible...57 Chevys for example. And there are cars that were made in relatively small numbers that are not very collectible....Nash Metropolitin for example.
But one thing it has going aginst it being collectible....it comes from Japan. Very few collectible cars in the US come from Japan.
But the advent of the "import scene" may change that.....
Because if the enthusiasts who grew up owning imports, in the future, ever try to recapture their youth by buying the cool cars of their time, some imports will be collectible...
A car's being collectible or not has a lot to do with it's ability to be able to capture a moment in time...whether it be a race series win, the youthful car/surfer culture of the 1950's, the drag racing scene in Detroit in the 1960's, or post war feelings of victory and freedom.
If the Evo happens to be able to capture an essence of today that we would like to recapture in the future, it will be a collectible car.
SC~ who's argument is prolly half baked.

The same thing was said about the supra and rx-7,just as many of those came over as the evo.The deciding factor will be its rep. I beleave the evo's value will not drop,Because after the 10 there will be no more Evo.And because of this mark up issue,on the dealer selling these right and w/good csi's will next the next major allocation

One word supra they have held there value quite a bit... Another word Fast and the Gay it was the flag ship car of the old movie and made prices for that car sky rocket... Now the Fast and the Gay 2 is coming out and the evo is the flag ship car in this movie and all the little Rice boys will want one so hey if someone is gonna offer me 40k for my evo i will sale it to anyone lol :-) Just my 2 Cents

Negative,FF did nothing but show everyone who didn't know you could mod those cars out,#2 The supra value has droped 37% in one year since word got out the EVO and STI was coming, now those cars are coming in on trade,They can be bought a dime a dozen. All 2F2F will do is show those who don't know and claim there racer because they own a evo or supra and have never been to any kind of race school, that yes you can modify a evo and 2003 ecplise.

Yes, Any Evo is collectable. It is a special example of a normal production car (Lancer) and a consumer version of the WRC race car. Some Evos will be more collectable than others, like the Evo6 TME.
No, You will not make money selling the 2004 Evo in the future. It's not special enough to offset the cost to maintain and store the car in a 'collectable' condition.

But now is there any domestics that would be a collectable.
netmand has a point is it worth it the cost to maintain and store the car in a 'collectable' condition because after all the cost to maintain a turbo and keeping the turbo in good working condition.
