i hope everyone thats claiming they have over 800+ credit scores are using real FICO scores and not fako.

The only place to see your true credit scores are from myfico.com, These are the scores lenders use to base their decisions on. If your geting scores from truecredit or my freecreditreport or anything else like that then they are FAKO and are 100% worthless.

On avg to have a score over 800 you need to have a credit history of 10 years or more, thats why im finding it hard to believe some of you guys in your early 20's are claming to have these scores. When you reach the 700's and especially the 800's even something as small as an inquiry will drastically reduce your score more then it would if you have a upper 600.

Todays society is based off of your credit score, it shows how credit worthy you are. Insurance/Jobs are now taking interest in your score and that could be the factor that gets you the job or lower insurance rates.

They did a study that showed people with low credit scores are more likely to get into a accident. You need credit nowadays and the people that shy away from credit cards are really doing a dis-service to themselves.

I highly suggest that everyone here starts taking a more proactive role in their credit management and starts pulling their credit reports+scores 3 times a year to make sure everything is kosher. You wont believe how inacurate the agencies that keep your reports are. The goverment doesnt regulate these so basically they do what they want.

Something as small as a wrong addy could lower your credit score. They could have you down as having one 30 day late from two years ago which you have never had that could be stoping you from geting that lower % apr on your mortgage.

People need to start opening their eyes and start seeing that credit is everything in todays society.

Pls all of you do yourselves a favor and goto www.creditboards.com and empower yourselves with information.

I'm married. I know what rings cost! The point is, unless you have 0% interest on your credit card/s you are throwing away big money every month. You may have it planned out, but your plan makes no sense to me. Good luck.

oh pls cut the bs, let the guy do what he wants. The avg household in america has $50k worth of credit card debt.

Tell your gf that "honey i wanted to get you that 1.5 carat ring but I could only afford .5 carat, I didnt wanna put it on my cc"

See how well that goes over.

67% of statistics are made up on the spot.

but seriously, i don't think it's anywhere near $50K of credit card debt. maybe with car debts included, but i do believe the average CC debt was much lower than that. if you have a link to verify it, please post it up here.

So since other people are financially stupid, I should be as well? Since other people are living beyond their means and in debt I should give advice to people that it's ok to live like that?

Sorry, but I think I'll stick to providing helpful advice. There is no need to be wasting money on CC interest every month. There is no need to be in CC debt, short of suffering an unforeseen emergency. This such a thing as the concept of good debt vs bad debt. CC debt is bad debt. A home mortgage is good debt.

I don't even want to get into the relationship issues you have if you think your wife-to-be wont marry you if the ring isn't big enough.

30k credit card debt, 17k student loans, 120k house, 31k left on my 05, priceless gf, and many nights of overtime. I just work hard for what I want. All I need in life is an EVO and house, should I keep my gf, LOL!

Hopefully you only get married once in your lifetime. I think that incuring $5k worth of credit card debt for a once in a life time purchase is more then acceptable. Why would I want to get a average ring and make her happy when I could sacrafice and get her a ring that will blow her away and make her overcome with joy. My gf doesnt want a 1.5 carat ring but I want to ger her it.

Blowing 5k on an engagement ring isnt as radical as blowing 5k on car parts.

Fine, but that wasn't your premise. Your premise was you g/f would be upset if you said you couldn't afford a 1.5 carat ring. What you wrote above and your last post are two different things. Every man wants to do nice things for his fiance/wife, but that's different then being with someone who expects it and would be upset if it wasn't feasible.

Both, are equally finacially irresponsible, but only you know what you really can afford and can't.

And for the guy with 30k in credit card debt....WTF!!!

Did you ever think of asking her why she doesn't want a 1.5 carat ring? Could it be because she doesn't think it looks good on her finger (assuming she has small hands)? I'm just saying, if you are going to take this "once in a lifetime hit" you might want to make sure you at least do it right. My fiancee, for example has small hands and didn't want an ZMG XOBX hueg ring. She had tried them on and didn't like the way it looked. But then again I got lucky with her in many ways, since she didn't care about the ring, just the fact that we were going to be together.

However, all that said, giving advice to someone that leads them to more CC debt is simply not sound advice.

Lets See here:

Wife's car $15k
My car $30k
One and only credit card $3k

so i don't think im doing that bad... I am buying a house in Nov. so add 180k to the mix plus expenses...yeah im in for a hell of time!!

Oh and I got the wife a decent ring for $2K cash, instead of the big crazy ring, I got her a nice car... so it works out well.
