I have been searching around for the answer to this question for the past couple of hours (evom, google, and Mitsubishi) but never found a real answer.

Does MIVEC on the 4G63 have a specific RPM where the second ("high speed") stage kicks in like at 3500 RPM with the 4G69 on Lancer Ralli's and newer Galants?
If it does, then what RPM is that?

Funny I was wondering that also. I believe what me means is at what RPM does the Variable Valve timing kick in. For example the S2000 Life Begins at 6k.

Well after doing some research I found this. The MIVEC doesn’t alter valve lift, just inlet valve timing. It continuously varies inlet valve timing to suit engine speed and load and provide high performance throughout the RPM range.

Oh Well Maybe the EVo X will have a VVT that will alter valve lift.

My guess is no. It is infinitely variable and it depends on the driving conditions and adjusts itself to the way the car is detecting load and other conditions...just like Blade said.

MIVEC on the 4g63 is just like having adjustable cam gear on the intake cam, except it's continuously changing depending on driving condition.

 

basically its not vtec.

 

Its mitsu version of VTEC, just like VVT-i, it balances the difference between power and efficiency. Nothing is vtec except vtec.

I guess that's why its so difficult to tune for MIVEC...so many variables

 

No, 6500 rpm and above it's zeroed on stock ecu mapped evo 9's.

 

In the traditional sense, no. It's the same thing as VTC in Honda's K-series motors.

 

I believe the MIVEC works all the time.
I had the VIII MR and traded in for the IX MR.
The major difference that I can truely feel is that, the power band is wider all the way, can't really tell from what RPM to what RPM, but really it is coming out from no where and whenever! It doesn't allow me to look at the odometer, because it is boosting very nicely, quickly and smoothly all the time!
Yeah, I know, I paid a price for the trade for this power... but, it is definitely a more civilized beast, can't deny.

 

OK, interesting. I really didn't know that. I thought it like a VVT system, or v-tec. Good to know.
