Besides the STi, what is the EVO's closest competitor?

I want a sick Peugot like the one on Grand Turismo!!!!BLAH@!!

... well realistically I don't think anyone really answered the question... but I think its the mazdaspeed 6 or an R32.... but most people don't consider these competitors.....but drivetrain, cost, and power they are right in the ball park

The Evo and STi are very unique because of their sophisticated AWD systems and have been for a good part of the last decade. However other cars have emerged with AWD capability like GTR, AWD 911, cayenne Turbo, maybe a modded Countryman?
As we know what makes the Evo and STi still so special is the ease of making HP.

Even though this is a very old thread I guess I can still say that I cannot think of anything that competes with the evo/sti. For the initial cost, power, awd, easy of making more power they are in a class all their own.
Call me a fan boy if you wish (I admit I am a bit bias and yes sort of a fan boy at times), but the evo and yes even the sti stand on their own.
I personally cannot afford anything in the range of my 8 that can give me what the 8 does. Nothing at all (with a clean title) can give me what my evo can for the price. Just on cost alone comparison nothing is close.
While neither of them may be the next "most desired" car or go up in value I think they hold a special place. Of course I could look worldwide for a car that compares but I do not live any place but the U.S. so for me I have to compare what I have available to me. Out of the two the evo is the one, if I could not have an evo though the sti or even a wrx would be next inline.
