i went from a 94 rx7 to my 05 evo. if you want a daily driver, stick with the evo. i like rotarys, but they are definitly unreliable. id like to get another one day as a project, but id definitly have something else as a daily driver. the site isnt loading for me right now, but this web site has alot of useful info on fd's. http://robrobinette.com/

lol Your going from bad gas mileage to worse. They are really fun cars. Especially the 3rd gen RX-7's. They honestly arent that reliable and the motors usually need to be rebuilt every 50k to 75k miles. The 2nd gens seems to be better as far as reliabilty goes. I have a friend that had a 2nd gen and sold it for a 3rd gen and regretted it because he ended up chipping the apex seal and having to sell the car for alot cheaper than what he paid for it. Im looking at getting a 2nd gen as one of my choices for next project drift car along with an SC300 or another 240. So i basically have to say if your serious about getting one go with the 2nd gen Turbo II or get a 3rd gen and go ahead and have the motor completely rebuilt with new UPGRADED apex seals and rotors.

RX7 is an awesome car, a true sports car..But it is not the type of car you drive everyday and it is not very practical or reliable..I own an EVO and RX7 so I am really not biased, both are awesome..

you get about 50,000 miles from a stock engine before a rebuild is needed. Rear ends are weak. you need to street port them and if you wanna build it go with a 3 rotor anyways...
My buddy has a blue one that may still be foresale, he has somewhere over 500+ at the rear wheels. Did i mention his rear end didnt like him... (they are not cheap either)
Good decision though, absolutely love the 3rd gen Rx-7's would take one over a supra/300zx anyday....

The RX-7 is a great platform to build on. I have put together a few rotaries, and if I had a choice I would use the 4G63 over rotary power. The FC and FD were both ahead of their time chassis wise, and either would be a great platform to build on.
That being said, I am weeks away from doing burnouts in my 4G powered FC.
