Need 30k service advise

Well I'm going to the dealer on Saturday for 30k service. The main problem is my 2nd gear is grinding. I just got off the phone, and the service manager said he had no techs that were certified to work on Evo trannys! WTF? He also quoted me around $500 for just the service. Also, I need new brake pads, and possibly the rotors resurfaced. Plus, fading calipers. I am still under warranty, but I'm starting to not have faith in Mitsu. They have already replaced 2 synchros in the past. Well, my goal is to just keep this car. I can put down $1,500 max right now for service. Would I be better off getting my tranny fixed by someone else? I can't ship to shep or tre , but have a good Evo tuner close by. Just want to get some opinions on my problems and the best way to get them fixed. 2nd gear, brake pads (all four), and 30k service. Also, my clutch is probably gonna be gone soon. I have an '03 with 29K on it. Can I do all this for $1,500 or less? I hope so, cause I don't ever wanna drive another car...ya'll know what I mean, of course.

If your car is unmodded mitsu should fix the tranny under warranty. If they repair the tranny for free they can replace the clutch with another stock one but the cost of stock clutch is expensive and it will be out of pocket.

The brakes are very easy to do. You should look in the how to section and do them yourself. At a minimum find a fellow local EVO-M person and have them do it. As for cutting the rotors that may cost a little to have done. I think it usually cost about $15/rotor.

My clutch was replaced under warranty with an aftermarket clutch before I bought the car. Somehow that happened, I dont know. Also, the car was sold to me as "stock" but had freakin cams in it. I've had it for 18 months and don't want to do all this. Would I be OK just to have someone else replace or repair my 2nd gear and not a whole tranny rebuild? Also, would you guys remove copper spark plugs before taking it in? They know I bought the car used, and suspect it has been modded, but did warranty work before on the tranny. They just don't sound confident this time. If the tranny was fixed, I could handle everything else between myself and my tuner

might as well kiss your warranty goodbye as they will say you installed the clutch and cams. I have stock evo and wouldn't let mitsu touch my car. I do all my services my self. Air filter, oil(evry 2500-3000 miles), tranny-transfer case-rear diff(evry 15,000 miles), and I don't race or beat on my car. I just do my maintence religiously because of all the horror stories I hear on here. Ive heard of mitsu techs putting non mobil1 in motor, automatic transmision fluid in the tc and tranny-are you f#ckn kidding me. Not to say all mitsutechs are idiots but not to many of them are evo worthy. Hope evrything works out for you.

I'd agree you're warranty is toast as soon as the dealership sees the aftermarket clutch.

I'd send it to TRE.

ok...that's possible i guess to send it off, but how much would the average evo mechanic charge to remove tranny, ship it to TRE, and then get it rebuilt? I'm guessing the rebuild would be around 2K. But what about shipping? And for those who have done it, how long will I be out of a ride? Keep in mind this stealership has done tranny work for me before with my clutch and cams. They had no idea. They said they would "try" to fix the rough idle (cams), and never found a solution. I really don't think they know what they are doing. I want it rebuilt, but am worried about the hassle.

new evo...haha....that would be like winning the lottery!! Seriously though, it's a decently big mitsu dealership and they don't have anyone qualified to work on an Evo tranny? I'm starting to think about cancelling my appointment. My tuner said he is rebuilding a Evo tranny now, and may consider trading for mine with some cash. All I read about is TRE and shep rebuilds, but this guy is good with Evo's. Does anyone get tranny's rebuilt from anyone else? The 2nd gear has basically been grinding since 15K. It got 29K miles now, and it's the same? I baby that gear, how much longer could it last?

How much labor to remove and put back in a tranny? that's a big question...

+1 except for my car is far from stock . The 30k service is so easy to do read around a little or get somone local to help you out. Seriously its cake. Paying the dealer 500+ to do this is a joke.

ok...I'm willing to do the fluids and brakes by myself or with minimal help, but it's the 2nd gear grinding that won't let me sleep. I put BG Synchroshift in last time, but it only helped for a little while. I mean, I've lived with the grind for almost 15k miles. If it would just last for another 15k, I could live with that, until I get more money. I've checked the "green list" dealers and can't find a good one in Atlanta. If anyone knows of a mod-friendly, rebuild my tranny type dealer, please let me know. That doesn't seem likely. This is starting to look like thousands of dollars, which may force me to get rid of my baby. I would rather walk than get rid of my Evo!
