You would be surprised how cheap I made this. I might make a few to sell to friends and pass the savings onto them. It is nice to work at a large manufacturing plant and have friends with welders.

I did the same thing. There is definitely enough thickness of the crashbeam to lop it down in the middle, then weld it back together. I am royally kicking myself for not taking pics when i had it done as i was standing right next to the fabricator as he was welding and shaping it.

And as far as the crash bar I made, well it is better than nothing. And nothing is what most people run with JDM IX rears.

I've been in a couple accidents, dear hitting my car, other driver hitting my car, and yes the insurance companies, any decent on that is, will notice the difference. They take pictures of the damaged areas and will do an itemized list of all parts the need to be replaced. They match them to OEM part numbers and then look for cheap replacemnsts. They will notice that the crash bar doesn't match the one in the diagram of the OEM parts sheet.

I have the stock crash bar on the back of my car with the JDM IX rear. It did take a lil moding tho. All you have to do is cut off the "legs" that space the beam away from the body. If you weld the "plates" that are welded to the "legs" back on to the crash beam flush/ flat it will fit.
So all that needs to be done is mount the crash beam flush against the body. The JDM rear will fit back over top of it, But it will be very close. I was very, very pleased with how it turned out. It looks factory if you didnt have a factory one next to it see the "steps/legs" that need to be removed.
