Ohhhhh, alright, that explains alot, lol! Well, at least my diagnosis of the 2nd time slip was right. :P

Anyhoo, I agree with you completely. The Evo is just brutal off the line, and shutting down a new '03 Cobra in the 1/8 mile is nothing to sneeze at. All of that Cobra RWD torque is nice...when it hooks. Those precious seconds spent by the Cobra spinning at launch while the Evo rockets away using AWD are painful to make up.

Grats again bud, 13.4x is a great time in the Evo. Awesome cars.

I personally don't care if the EVO is slower or faster than my 03' Cobra. I'm in dire need of a drivers car and the Cobra isn't that. It's fun beating up on some $90,000 cars every once in a while, but highway runs really isn't my thing. I had a 2000 ITR before my Cobra and I really miss the handling. The Cobra isn't a slouch, but imports have a totally different feel to them. I'm just getting out of the whole modding thing and want a all around excellent "stock" car that I'll be satisfied for a long time to come. I'm sure the way I am though it can't stay stock for long, but I'm sure you guys know what I mean.

I've been drooling on a red EVO at the dealer for about a week now. I'm just waiting for this house thing to pan out and then it's on like bugs fawking.

Hey Corey,

I remember seeing you on the SVT board (i think). I thought it was funny that an ITR guy would go SVT Cobra.

Luckily for me, I have 2 decent cars so I can live with the Cobra. It is certainly not a car I would personally take to the road course...

It is fun as hell to listen to the thing thunder from 50-130 in no time, but like you said, it is not a good "all around" car.

I am keeping mine for a while though... I am having coilovers installed on thursday and some 18" wheels for it. Possibly going to get a smaller blower pully and computer work...470rwhp is pretty sweet... although I have only ever gotten into a race with somone on the highway maybe 2 times.

Are you the guy with the Mineral Grey 03' and the Silver EVO? If so, you lucky bastard. I seen you post some pics of both of them on S2ki.com I think.

Well the story of me going from the ITR to the Cobra is I work for Ford Mo. Co. and it made sense to buy something support my job at the time. I've had a few problems with my Cobra and with the dealers as well. That is the main reason of getting rid of it. Plus it gives me a GOOD reason to get back in the import thing again.

Not to high jack your thread, but how many miles your Cobra have on it? Have you noticed any smoke when you start it up? Mine started smoking on start up a while back and two dealers told me it's normal and I also called SVT personally and they said the same thing. Just wondering.

That is me on the S2ki board... I had a S2000 but traded it for the Evo.

My cobra was purchased with 3400 miles from a dealership in Virginia.... yes, mine does smoke once in a while when started... I assumed it needed valve seals already, but they say it is the oil that was left over in the supercharger...or something like that... mine does it sort of at random...sometimes a big cloud other times little and mostly none.

I thought my cobra was 100% stock..... as it turns out (i know nothing about mustangs to say the least.... it had an aftermarket exhaust, K&N airfilter (not cold air intake, but just replacement filter), Bassani X- with cats, weld in sub-frame connectors and evidence of a chip (which I then paid to get a stock PCM put back into it).

I like the cobra, but it is way less pleasant to drive than the Evo.... You will be happy switching I am sure...

That's good I guess. I never thought I'd hear someone tell me my 35K car is suppose to smoke, but there is always a first for everything I guess.

That's cool you have all those mods on your car already. Didn't it sound kinda loud though for a stock car? Bassani is suppose to be one of the loudest exhausts from what I've heard. You dyno it yet?

I'm sure I'll like the EVO more, being it's more of what I want and it's a little more practical with four doors. Plus I'll be more familiar with the aftermarket companies as well. I feel lost trying to find stuff for my Cobra. I just can't seem to get into it for some reason.

I'll keep you posted if or when I get the EVO. Should be within 2-4 weeks.

it actually has a Bassani X pipe with flowmaster exhaust...so it is not all that loud.....i mostly drove around with the windows up until recently....now it sounds a good bit louder with the windows down.....nothing like that Bassani exhaust...that thing is super loud for sure!

To **** mustang owners off I am putting 18" gunmetal LE37's on my Cobra...should be here in a month or so.

Everyone is forgetting how much the 03 Cobra weighs-very heavy. The better driver wins in a race between a EVO and a
03 Cobra-it's that simple.

Let me try to put a wrap on this. I am in Gainesville, FL and have two friends: one with a 1st gen Talon AWD and one with an 03 SC Cobra. Both are heavily modded, the Talon has alcohol injection and runs 30 psi on the street, the Cobra has full exhaust, pulley running 14 psi, and gears. They raced from both a roll and a stop and the DSM pulled on him both times. They are both great drivers, however, the 4G63 engine is so bulletproof that making 400+ AWD horsepower in not a problem. So in conclusion, have no doubt that the Evo will always be the better, more streetable, and cooler car.

Clappton, you are saying they are both heavily modded, one running alcohol and the other running a little more boost, exhaust, and gears. Sounds to me only one is heavily modded and it isn't the Cobra. My 03' is very streetable, but I'll admit not as cool.

91zr1, the Cobra weighs 400lbs more and has about 120 HP (which is underrated, look at sig) as well. I've never seen a stock EVO trap what a stock Cobra traps in the 1/4 mile.....never. If your talking drag racing, it will be close between the two, but a street race IMO wouldn't be that close with the Cobra winning. Ecspecially from a roll.

Both cars are easy to mod. I know plenty of guys here with Talons/Eclipses that have Forced Performance Green & Red model turbos on thier cars and putting down some crazy numbers. I will have to say parts are cheaper for the Cobra though.

EVO specialist, any fast or relatively fast car is alway going to be compared no matter what it's background. I will agree with you about there is more than just accelerating. That is why I should be switching to a EVO in the near future myself. I want a car that is good in every catagory.

Just my semi modified cobra was trapping at 116mph with a 2.0 60' time (that was with a small burnout and lowered tire pressure).

From a roll, there are not many cars that can take a well driven stock cobra..... throw in a few mods and that makes it even worse...... a cobra with pully, chip, exhaust and intake is usually around 600 crank hp or 470 rear wheel hp..... that moves 3700lbs fairly quickly.

The cobra has a hell of a time hooking up on a regular street, even from 35mph.

How much does an upgraded blower for the Cobra cost?

you can get a kenny bell supercharger for about $3600 for a Cobra.... that gets you 600rwhp. Of course the half shafts start to splinter at that point....

For 480rwhp it costs about $1250 or so.... chip, pully, exhaust and intake.

Nitrous Pete ran a 10.0 without nitrous with the Kenny Belle with stock half shafts. Don't know how they are holding up, but it's been done.

My buddy dynoed his 03' over 500 whp-600wtrq with about $2400 (maybe less) in his car. He runs consistant 6.90's in the 1/8 and is in the 11's in the 1/4.

ShapeGSX, you sig says you ran a 8.0 @ 88mph? I ran a 8.504 @ 88 mph with a 2.3 60 ft. Traction owns me. Put some DR's on this ***** and I'll be knocking on 7's stock. I won't have it that long hopefully.
