guys the 2 way viper system is probably a lot cheaper than you may think. I thought it was rediculously expensive but i got mine installed with the pager AND proximity sensors(costs abolut $100 extra) and tints all for $500 ! If I knew it was that cheap I would have done it with my last evo the day i got it.

well guys i saw the car yesterday and it is completely 90% stripped, the only thing left is the back seats, turbo, the motor and the 6spd tranny...... i walked by the car 5 times and i asked the guy wheres is the car, to find out that it was infront of me.....yes that bad. they also cut down all the doors and trunk, hood everything. this is bs. it suxs to know you cant drive a nice car without getting messed with or even getting your pride and joy stolen. like i said before keep an eye open for your guys evo's especially those who live in apartments.

Buy the engine back and drivetrain back (if you can afford it), then you can have something to use in a fun project. That sucks to hear but at least you can get a new Evo again, that is always fun at least.

I find this very odd, the engine and tranny are probrably the most sought after parts on the car. I wonder why they would leave it in there. You'd think that would be the first to come out.

Does anybody have an reports on how the transponder type key system works in the EVO? Is this system basically defunct? If a thief gets into the car, is it really a flat blade screwdriver all that is needed to get the EVO to run?

I'm sorry about your loss ... Makes us all think twice on how to secure our EVOs.

Sorry to hear about your car man. I have a RA but since I am moding it I will be putting in a alarm system. VIPER with all the works. Anyways just as a thought to all you EVO or just LANCER in general. I am going to install a switch to the fuel pump that has to be turned on before you start the car. Basically if the switch is in the OFF position no fuel pump and NO GO or at least for a long distance. I also live in apartments with a gated entrance. Some times the gate is also broken and I wonder if mine is going to be taken.

I hope everything works out for you man and like someone said above, buy the engine and tranny if you can.

In regaurds to the comment abot stripping the car, I would have to say that it was some low lifes that didnt have the equipment to get the tranny and engine out but got all the easy stuff. Basically a quick strip and go. Might want to check EBay and other sights, maybe call around if your trying to locate some off the parts and see if anyone has sold anything to a junk yard ect. Probly not worth the time, just a though.

I still don't understand how can they just steal the EVOs. I can see that getting in the car takes about 2 seconds, but I thought the cars could not be started without the keys... Do those inmobilizers not work? It would be a a sorry irony, because I cannot get a key made that will actually let me drive the car. However, some punk with a screwdriver can start it and drive it off?!? WTF!

Stealing a modern car is definitely not an easy, task, but there are some extremely sophisticated car thieves out there. Some of them work at Mitsubishi dealerships...

Well ... for awareness, I would certainly suggest putting up some way to contact you on the VIN of this car, perhaps even now its going to be parted out, it might do good to post the VIN here. Your choice.

Reason? This car is basically out of service ... probably giving up the VIN now would actually put a data point out in the industry to say, if somebody got some used parts sold on eBay etc ... and referenceed them with your origional VIN number then perhaps some traceability could be established to nab the <insert bad word here> ers that actually jacked your EVO. I know that when my EVO came from the factory, its got VINs all over the car. Its taken me on and off about 2 years to get them all off, and they show up in the most funny places, when taking off a panel.

I'd hope that FWIW 'we' the EVO community could help put pressure on EVO theives somehow.
