Question about EVO

Hi, I currently drive tuned stage 4 WRX with BPU (280whp). I am thinking about getting used EVO and have a few questions.

- What are noticeable differences between EVO 8 and 9 and which one should I go with?
- Are EVOs susceptible to blown trannys like WRX’s 5sp? In comparison, STi has much stronger drivetrain vs. regular WRX.
- Insurance cost: why EVOs carry such high insurance premium? Is it because of rate of stolen vehicles or people getting into accidents racing their cars? Just curious…
- I’ve seen many stage kits that enables EVO to run 115+mph trap speed quite easily. Is that really possible and will that require any engine upgrade soon or later? My goal is to run low 12s @ 110+mph trap.
- Any other problematic areas I should look into when shopping around for used EVO’s? In other words, are EVO’s as reliable in stock form? In comparison, my WRX has been very reliable for the past 5 years and haven’t had anything go wrong with the car including transmission. 

Thank you in advance for your input.

IX has more HP and MIVEC which has proved to be very easy to see high 11's with min. mods.

Depends on the driver and power, they arent as bad as the 02/03 WRX.

Mine is less than my STi was.

Lots of stock engines in the 11's and 12's. TBE, MBC, and Tune on an IX can see high 11's and low 12's.

If you didnt destroy your syncros on your WRX the evo tranny wont be a problem...I hope. I dont buy used so good luck on this one.

Thank you in advance for your input.

alright get a evo 9 and with only like a fuel pump mbc tbe and tune you will be running 115's easy i think i might be wrong, definately go with an evo. evo 9's make way more power w/ bolt ons the only down fall is there are no good cams yet so the evo VIII can be more modded at this point. if you spend like 1500 on your evo IX you will run 115 trap speeds i think. i havnt had any problems with my evo
good luck

Resale on STI's is better and the warranty and dealers are much better on the Subaru. But as far as fun factor the Evo wins by a landslide. I drove both.....the 06 STI left me feeling like it was just another boring car. The evo got my heart pounding!

ashumno, thanks for the info. Is it a must that MBC be used on EVO? can boost be controlled via tune similar to Cobb AP (since you came from STI)?

honestly, i had a subaru and the subaru is a motor and wheels...nothing else, the suspension blows and is harder to make fast with similar mods like if you had an evo

Get an evo, you'll be happy with the result with only bolt on. Good luck with your decision.
