Help Me Choose Which Evo

It really depends on what you want to do with the car and what you want out of it. The bottom line is that all three models can do everything: drag, autocross, daily drive, whatever. The differences are mostly the creature comforts.
Since you are on a limited budget, it looks like all three IX models and the VIII MR are out of the window. If it doesn't bother you to have roll-up windows and manual door locks plus you would rather install your own audio system, I would recommend the VIII RS. If you've got the dough for an '05 RS, do it, since it adds ACD plus the updated turbo parts that kick up hp and torque a bit. But if not, the '04 RS is no slouch. Some people prefer the '04 with its lower price (since it's older) and "purer" handling due to viscous center differential (since some people prefer to not have computer-aided differentials that can be a bigger hassle when problems arise), plus unlike the regular '04 VIII it has a front LSD. But if you absolutely need power windows and power locks, then the '03-'05 VIII is for you. It really depends on how cheap yet reliable of an Evo you can find within your price range.

I prefer the GSR as i like having sound deadening and power windows and locks. If you like to listen to the radio the rs does not come with one. But that is easy to fix. Good luck finding a deal on one. they are out there just be patient.
