It is nickel lubricant used on threads to stop them rusting together.

Nickel might be overkill for exhaust pipe.

metallic antiseize is designed to provide a protective film against galling and seizure over a wide range of applications. The micro-sized particles produce a smooth creamy consistency and allows it to quickly and easily coat fine threaded fasteners, small diameter fasteners all the way to large diameter fasteners.

If you do use anti seize, dont follow torque specs, otherwise may wind up stripping the threads on your nut or bolt by overtightening.

My car is like covered in antie Seize, lugs brake pads, o2 sensors, exhaust systemm and pretty much anything I think might rust. Antiseize is great.
