tail lights interchangeable?

tail lights interchangeable?
I was wondering if the tail lights from different years are completely interchangeable? I was wanting to black out my tail lights, but Ive read that its a lot more complicated than blacking out headlights, so I was thinking maybe I could just buy some of the newer model Evo's tail lights that come blacked/smoked out stock. Are they a simple replacement to 03 Evos though? Also, does anyone know of a place to purchase them (tried Ebay in hopes of finding a used one, but no luck)?
