almost stalled out...

so why waiting at a red light the other day, my car almost stalled out several times. the only thing i noticed was there was a couple old muscle cars next to and behind me, w/ really loud, lopey idles. they seemed to be correlated somehow. is this possible?

Your knock sensor thought your car was knocking and wanted to shutdown to prevent damge.

I have read this before in another thread. Like rcheung said it was the knock sensor.

lol! I freaked out when my car did that a few times before also. Couldn't explain it. It happened when my buddy revved his supercharged s2k in front of me, and when some Harley Davidson revved his bike next to me at bike week!

Damn cars...so sensative!

It won't stall, but the rpm's dip like it wants to. It's like the car gets scared! I've learned to anticipate it and rev it a wee bit to avoid this.

It was probably vibrating the hell out of your maf sensor. I know if you tap that thing a little at idle the car wants to die out on you

yeah i had to rev a little to prevent it from stalling, it went low several times. the guy probably was thinking i wanted a race reving next to him. all along i was trying to prevent from stalling. so in evo w/ lopey idles, ie. 272 or 280 cams is this a problem?

I have stock intake and it still happened to me. I was waiting to make a left turn while a harley passed by going straight and my rpm's dipped, but it didn't stall.

i searched on this topic awhile back and half the people say it's the knock sensor, the other half say it's the MAF sensor. my idle will stumble when i shut the hood while the car is runing, but nothing happens when i tap on the MAF sensor which led me to think it's the knock sensor and not the MAF.

I've never heard anyone have a problem like this with cams. I believe the sound/vibration has to be real deep for the sensor to pick it up and react. Lopey cams in idle is not that serious...I don't care how aggressive they are.
