2.3L GT35r EVO8 finally done!

Well Guys,

I finally got my 2.3L stroker motor together! I have been breaking it in now for about 1.5 months. I autocrossed it and then took it to the 1/4 mile to see what she can do. My setup is as follows:

GT35r .63 a/r exhaust (ballistic style compresor side)
Rev hard cast manifold
2.3L stroker setup (Slowboy; manley rods, wiseco pistons, 4g64 crank, new block, etc...)
Tial 38mm dumped wastegate
HKS 264 in/ex cams
25 psi on 94 octane
Nisei FMIC
PTE 880cc injectors
Everything else is stock from the head gasket up!

Totally custom street tune by me and my budddy Dan!

DSMDan is the MAN!!!

It ran:
1/4 mi: 12.3
MPH: 117.3
60 ft: 1.78
All with a 15mph head wind!

I had the launch control at 5500rpm and my clutch is a ACT Street Setup. It was definetly slipping! It seems like it is slipping up top too but I can't really tell.

Did a log at the track with EVOScan 0.97 and dumped it to DataLogLab and got some interesting results:

420 whp at 6000 rpm and 399 ft/lb at 5031! Not bad for street tuned EVO only running 25lbs of boost on 94oct pump gas!

Some basic crap that doesn't really mean anything but is fun to play with:

Trap-speed / ET / Weight (Wet) / ET Method / Speed Method / Average
117.3 / 12.3 / 3400 / 361.12hp / 428.28hp / 394.70hp

I am very happy with the car! A 400 whp pump gas street car is a lot of fun! I am planning on doing GSC 280's in the future and doing some intake manifold/head work next summer. I am going to get a new clutch and do some building up of the transfer case over the winter here.

What do you guys think?

P.S. - I can't wait to get some more boost to her next year (30psi!)

~Zach

hmmmm... There's still so much horsepower untapped but at least is broken in and ready to go. Replace that clutch asap and go to the tracks again. You'll be in the high 11's for sure

Not to be rude but I think the times are poor for 2.3L and gt35.

Alot of times you see 2.3l gt35r cars with AEM stand-alone and head work and sheet metal intakes and all the jazz. Remember I am running stock everything except bottom end and turbo! I have seen EVO's with that amount of mods pick up at least 50-60 whp with a stand-alone....

Looking good so far.

Another option you can consider would be a MAFT Pro setup.

Much more cost effective and retains the factory ECU safeguards.

You get boost control, a/f with speed density or GM MAF.

You have a setup there capable of 600 awhp + !

Just my 2 cents.

well my buddy ran 11.1 on his stock 2.0(only mods to long block were hks 272's..no headstuds or rodbolts even)so it does seem a little slow for the mods but its probably just because the pump gas tune...im sure it will pick up cosiderably with extra boost....

Actually works very well. But at 4,000 rpm the turbo hits 25psi and the tires like to sping then....
But the 2.3l gt35r definetly isn't the best autocross setup but works very well just have to learn how to stay in boost and where it comes on.

sweeet results man. i like seeing those 264's in that. I think the stroker would benefit with a set of aggressive cams.

Yeah, I hear ya! I just didn't have the $$ to start doing other stuff. Plus I want to see how the spool up on the turbo responds to small cams compared to bigger cams.

You definitely need a new clutch brother. Look at my sig and I'm on stock turbo, stock injectors, stock block, stock clutch, no cams, no alky, and it was done with 93oct gas with a 1.8 60' time. You definitely have the mph to hit high 11s... There is something wrong with your 1/4 time...

BTW - I did fry my clutch this weekend at the drag strip. I was expecting to hit 12 flat on the run that I totally fried it. Any who, SPEC stage 3+, here I come...
