03 Trans Rebuild Suggestion
All I know is that I want lsd and what do you guys suggest for the guts
I was thinking stage 2 with Team R.I.P. TRE Racing
I think this is the worst Transmission i have ever drivin.
Grinds, notchy shifts, and lockouts are common
I have had all the syncros replaced 3 months ago and it still doesnt work right, too bad i cant bring it back because of my mods
Car only has 18,000 miles
BTW I dont beat this car at all

Sometimes what you think is a bad tranny is just a bad or worn clutch. As my crappy ACT was on its way out, I was grinding 4th every time and generally not liking how each gear shifted. I was convinced that my 250+ drag runs with powershifting had damaged the synchros. Well, the ACT went all the way out, so I put in an Exedy 4-puck with some new fluid, and the shifting became like butter...even better than when the car was brand new despite 20,000 miles of driving and tons of racing.
I say to go with the Master, John Shepherd, for your upgraded trans with LSD.

Slight difference but it still sucks
BTW I bought the car 6 months ago bone stock with 11,000 miles

Yeah try the fluid change first if you haven't done so. And LSD and a beefup are way too expensive if you don't beat on it

My 03 trans feels pretty good. I changed the fluids once at about 32k, I should be due for another one soon since i'm at 56k now. I do not experience lock out, and shifting fast is very possible. I am getting a 5th gear grind right now, so i'll be sending it off for some warrenty work. Besides that everythings holding up pretty good.

Try Pennzoil Synchromesh. If it doesn't improve anything, take the transmission off and inspect the clutch and flywheel step height. If all else fails, sent it to shep or TRE. I have 40k on my car and the tranny is smooth as butter. No grinds, shifts perfect even at high rpm's. I contribute alot of transmission problems to improper driving (improper downshifting).

Very true. It's not easy to drive the Evo smoothly, it takes practice. I can be touchy at times.
