I brought an IX on Saturday for me the decision was based on:
- I wasn't fond of the 6 speed gear box, personally
- The gauges I'd have upgraded anyway
- I really couldn't tell the difference in ride height, and anyway the only difference is the shocks, which will need to be replaced some day anyway
- The vortex generator can be purchased for $50
- I don't like the BBS wheels
- The extra $7k (and thus an extra $300/month) I was being quoted for an MR didn't make any of these worth it.

- The gauges I'd have upgraded anyway - There's only one gauge to upgrade in the package, and that's the boost gauge. The other two are still useful - mainly the oil temp
- I really couldn't tell the difference in ride height, and anyway the only difference is the shocks, which will need to be replaced some day anyway - You didn't notice a different in ride height, because that's not a different the MR has. The Bilsteins ar every nice, because they improve daily driving feel (less harsh) while also having superior handling. Why would you need to "replace some day anyway"? Do you mean like in 100000 miles or something?
- The vortex generator can be purchased for $50 - True
- I don't like the BBS wheels - But you like the plan Enkeis that add 10lbs of rotational mass to the car?
- The extra $7k (and thus an extra $300/month) I was being quoted for an MR didn't make any of these worth it. - It's not an extra 7k. Plus, this means you got the base GSR and have no HIDs or any of the SSL package

The MR rocks!
there is a reason that mitsu made a MR edition guys, as to give a better option to customers they dont produce 1k cars to just sit there on the lot,
I have had a 03 GSR and now a 06 MR and i will tell you that the ride on the mr is far far superior in terms of comfort and handling, as well as more aerodynamic with the aluminum roof and the 6 speed which yes under heavy heavy road racing situations 4th gear goes, but other wise is much much smoother for daily driving/crusing and much easier to keep within the powerband.
and of course the MR edition is more exclusive as fewer were made...

The 6 speed and the aluminum roof panel really set the MR apart from the GSR. These are features that GSR owners wont be able to add aftermarket without incurring more cost than just trading in for a MR. The 6 speed has very well thought out gear ratios and the shifter on the IX's is silky smooth. The 6 speed final gear is the same as the 5 speeds, so I'm not sure about the "cruising" argument. The 6 speed really shows it's stuff on a road track where you can take advantage of having the right gear for the corner. When I took my car to the track I was able to run in 3rd and 4th exclusively where other cars had to downshift to 2nd to get around some corners, it made a big difference. On the street the gear ratios work incredibly well also. I do alot of in-town driving and dont mind the extra gear at all.
Suspension, wheels, badging, gauges, and cosmetics could be added to a GSR to duplicate the MR.
