Tuning for fuel efficiency???
What's up guys/gals!
I've had my IX MR for 3 months now and I came to realize that when it comes to fuel consumtion this car sucks really bad. City isn't bad, but once im on highway(to work and back) the car just guzzles gas like it's nothing. Even cruising in 6th at under 3,000rpm around 60-65mph. Im sorry to bring it up, since I know alot of you hate comparing this car to our beloved Evo, but my srt-4 had basically the same EPA rating and I didn't go through gas like this car...even when the neon was modded.
Now my question is,
Are there any modifications I can make to the car that would probably improve the gas mileage? I've hear in the past that an K&N would help. But are there any others that you people might know of? BTW, modifications that won't hinder my performance.
Thanks alot everyone.

i have a 40 mile commute each day to and from work, most on the highway, rest city driving... i usually get about 260 miles to a tank... highway driving, i went to Alabama and was averaging about 330 a tank and i even hit a 365 or so on the way down... the car sucks gas if you drive it hard... stay out of boost and you are fine

Stay out of boost. I do a mix of highway / city driving and get around 27 mpg. I wouldn't expect much more out a awd vehicle of this caliber. You have to pay to play.

Let me be the first to tell you to ignore any future posts which disparage you for caring about fuel economy. Every time someone asks a question like this they get flamed. "Should've bought a Prius if you are worried about gas mileage" is the type of idiotic response that you'll get.
In answer to your question, a drop-in filter may help a little bit. I recommend a custom road tune. Among other things, it will lean out your air-fuel ratio while giving you more power. Sounds impossible, but I had it done recently. If I drive conservatively and stay out of boost I get about 28-29 mpg on the highway. Heck, I average 21-22 mpg with a good amount of city driving and plenty of boosting.

i get around 300 usually driving 45 miles round trip...all freeway. i'd be interested in knowing some mods to increase fuel efficiency...i'm wondering whether a simple tune would help?
out of curiousity...is it better for fuel efficiency to downshift and keep it out of boost (6th to 5th) or stay in 6th and hit around 0.3 bar?

Anyone live in a hilly area??? I live in a pretty hilly area and drive up hills everyday. I'm trying to figure out how bad the gas mileage is for someone that drives up hills everyday. Like steep hills 40-45 degree angle hills. If you have ever been to SF you know what I'm talking about.
What kind of mileage do the hilly folks get???
