Well, you can NOT shift quickly into second above 6500RPMs it seems..

So i just shift slow to 2nd gear.

I think every one of us has missed the 1-2 shift until they got used to the tempermental nature of the tranny.. Once its broken in, and your used to the level of clutch engagement, and you don't try to powershift the car, you'll do just fine.. AWD was a totally new experience for me... I was always used to launching and either going, or nothing but tire smoke.. Definitely a new experience to either take off, or bog..

i can easily bang it into second at redline... its just the clutch has to be fully down for you to get it in or you will grind the gear as i have learned

It's a commonly missed shift apparently. I've read numerous accounts of missed 1-2 shifts and even SCC's test driver did it twice at his time on the track. Don't feel too bad about it.

I'm pretty sure 1-2 has a triple synchro... and 3-4 are double's?... can anyone confirm?

1-2 not too bad, but I have missed it twice. Just takes a bit more time than my Miata did. I blow the 2-3... but its operator error, with the clutch coming out before the shifter is fully engaged.

Makes me feel better to know it could be more car than me..

I was always proud of my slick shifting technique, and I was surprised at that missed shift..

Thanks for the compassion guys!!

How many miles are on everyones cars? Early on I missed second both times I tried to shift quickly (NOT powershifting). But once the car hit the magic 1k mark I can shift it as quick as I want without a hint of grind. It just seem to have a long break in (longer than the motor). I love the way it shifts now but I have to admit I was a little worried at first

I've been in my buddy's Evo plenty of times, and more than once has second ground in upon higher RPM engagements.

Yes, the clutch was floored.

It's just a rough second gear. This kind of stuff happens, especially when it's attached to a highly complex drivetrain.

Shift 2nd slowly to maintain transmission survivability.

I never had an issue in my Evo VI RS-2, in fact I still think it's the best gear box I've driven to date - exactly because it's very precise. Now in the VIII I've missed second when changing quickly at high revs as well... I don't understand, I didn't think much changed in that area...

Could this be a second gear or transmission "issue"????
