Car totalled............

I have no problem with parents buying their kids things, hell I got my lancer as a graduation present of sorts, my problem is parents buying their kids things without fully understanding what they are actually doing. Honestly, why does a 16 year old kid need a 300 hp car? Wouldn't a 150 hp civic si (older model) suffice? A lot of the kids I went to high school with were given high end cars (ie. BMWs, Lexuses, STis, suped up civics, etc.) so I have first hand experience of what happens when you mix youth with money. Some of these kids wrecked their cars, others got massive speeding tickets, a few got away with it all despite things like street racing on the highway. One girl rolled her car and killed an innocent bystander, two kids who graduated before us died when they got in a head on collision with a semi. All of this resulted from two things, the age of the people involved and the fact they were given things far outside what they could deal with.

From the OP comments, I would not have guessed he was 17 years old. He understood what happened and took responsibility for it; it was a mature post. It is to bad that some of you who are undoubtedly older than 17 are acting younger than 12. I will clean this up. If your post is removed, it is because you were flaming, baiting, challenging the word filter or just being a jerk.
Thanks..
Thanks..

For the people that say "he is just another dumb teenage Evo driver" the few times I met him, he was one of the few that didn't do any dumb crap at meets/on the way to meets. Wasn't a showoff by no means. So keep those comments to yourself.

Syed, glad to hear you are ok and you live to drive another day. Cars come and go but the thrill of driving never goes away.

Sorry bro, my advice would be to stay away from the Evo until you are a little older and more experienced.

DAMM..he was probably trying to do some downhill drift initial d style to get the girls ## afterwards who shifts in the middle of a corner much less a downhill. If you ever buy another evo Go to a HPDE learn proper car control & technique

Some of you guys are absolutely horrible. The guy admitted his mistakes, learned from his lesson, and even said HIMSELF that he is going to stay away from an Evo for a long time. Who gives a damn who paid for his car; the kid's lucky he wasn't seriously injured or injured someone else. He made a mistake any one of us could've made. Not everyone may heel-toe through a turn but how many of us have used our brakes in the middle of a turn? Same thing; you're shifting the weight of the car and it can easily cause an accident. I gotta give respect to the OP for keeping his head on his shoulders and not turning this into a huge flame war. He's taken the punches and is making a mature decision by avoiding high powered cars for awhile. Who can yell "immature and spoiled little rich kid" at that? I certainly couldn't without looking like a douche bag. Stop kicking a person while they're down. It's people like you that makes great forums such as evom into a place people avoid like the plague.

Damn, sorry to hear about that man, we have an overpopulation of haters on EvoM I see. Why is everyone saying **** to the kid? Its not like he went and crashed your car...Its his car..so relax. Anyways hope you get back into an evo or what ever you decide to get!

I said it before and will say it again...Syed showed great maturity for coming on EvoM and giving his account of what happened. He didn't make up some story about another driver causing the accident. He owned up to his actions and I admire that to no end.
You can debate what's right or wrong pertaining to his parents helping him buy the car. You can debate whether a teen should drive such a high performance car. You can debate whether he should even look at another Evo. You can not, however, debate the level of maturity this kid showed, as he surpassed some people on here who are much older than he is.
I don't support his actions in his accident, but I do agree that this road leaves very little room for error and Syed simply made a mistake. Being a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City where this occurred, I can assure you that we have had fatals on that stretch of road. This road is not forgiving and Syed learned his lesson.
