ceramic coating over kill

Would ceramic coating AND wrapping (heat wrap) my downpipe be an ok thing to do? I always see people doing one of them but never both. Is there any ups or downs to doing this?

My goal here is to just keep temps down. I've heard of manifolds cracking because of heat wrap.

I have a shop down the street that will do it for 70$

Yes, it's overkill. But you'll be the first to do it both :P

You can do it but the benefits will be minimal if anything at all. The purpose of the wrap/coating it to keep the heat within and speed up the exhaust gas velocity. That is why you see alot of manifolds wrapped or coated; this can help spool up and keep underhood temps down. After the turbo you won't see much difference except for maybe keeping the oil pan a little cooler. I have used heat wrap and coating and prefer to just have parts coated. The heat wrap turns brittle once it gets wet and goes through some heat cycles. IMHO, just save your money for something more beneficial.

Yes that is ture about the wraps. I just want to keep temps down around the tranny oil. So Coating the pipe would just be the best thing to do here. Fast and Cheap for 70$. Thx

i just wraped my meagan ceramic coated exhaust mani yesterday and temp of mani was approx 200 deg lower after wrap. i ceramic coated my mani myself cause i spray thermal barrier coatings on aviation engine parts for a living. And i measure temp with a thermal gun before and after wrap. i like the look of the wrapped mani.
