Not uncommon.
Seems to happens often to cars that have been on the track. Thats when I have heard of it most often.
EVO owners should be checking torque monthly.

The stock rotors rust like an infection. When wheels are removed some of this rust sticks to the wheel and plenty stays on the rotor. Well, if you remount the wheel with the wheel and rotor in this condition the rust falls out and volare, loose lug nuts - simple.
When I am rotating tires the back of every wheel gets a wire wheel mounted in a drill taken to it and the same is applied to the mounting surface of the rotor. I also have to do a little scraping around the studs where the wire wheel won't reach.
Anyway, do this and you lug nut problem will be long gone.
Let a bad winter come along and we will be reading posts from people saying they can't get their wheels off. Well, they rust weld on, heehee.

If you use an airgun, do check the nuts with a torque wrench afterwards. They tend to be very hit/miss and will more often than not overtighten the thing.
also, try some anti-sieze and star pattern. tighten all in a star pattern first then go around the same pattern with the torque wrench. another good idea is to check your torque wrench against another one. Sometimes, they get a bit tweaked out of calibration.
