Evo 9 cam timing only in the lower revs? is this true?

Evo 9 cam timing only in the lower revs? is this true?

at what rpm does the evo 9 cam timing kick in, is it both cams or just one? is it in the higher or lower revs? I have heard it is only in the lower revs is this true? help would be much appriciated. thanks

found this, and now know it is only in lower revs. what makes the ix engine different from the VIII

That article does not apply to the Evo IX's engine. The article is referring to versions of Mitsubishi MIVEC engines that have variable valve LIFT.

In the Evo IX, MIVEC refers just to variable valve TIMING, not variable valve lift.

The 9 mivec is on the intake cam. It doesn't "kick in" per say. That phrase comes from the honda vtech that has two different lobes on the camshaft. The rpm which the lobes switch from small to big would be the kick in point.

The mivec is nothing more than an adjustable cam gear. Adjusting the gear in one direction gives better topend pull but sacrifices turbo spool and low end torque. Adjusting the gear the other way makes the turbo spool up faster giving better low/midrange torque, but then the topend is not so great. The mivec gives the best of both worlds. The adjustable gear is done with hydrolic solenoid and it is controlled progressively by the ecu.
