How do I know if my EVO was properly broken in?

I heard a story about a project Evolution IX which they drove viciously as soon as they got it. It supposedly strengthened the valvetrain.

You know what.....

I have no idea where I'm going with this. Just thought you'd like to know.

Do people generally beat the car hard to seat the piston rings or do they take it easy like Mitsu says? I got mine with 200 miles on it and the sales guy told me he beat on it, with a smile after a purchased the car.

im sure he boosted it from time to time anyway just cause ultimately he wasnt gonna keep it. if its running good looks like nothing he did bad or good affected it

mileage is bout right; its not the greatest for being a 4 banger

keep about 4-5k rpm part throttle when ur braking it in but dont be afraid to get there too quickly

hmm...I have a comment about evo's consuming oil.
I have 10k on my evo and it's never burned more than a few drops of oil.
I've done about 3 oil changes and it has never shown any signs of oil burning/oil level decreasing.

It's hard for me to believe that an evo will burn a quart of oil every 3k miles..but that's just me though.
My car was broken in using the semi-hard breakin procedure.

Don't worry my EVO 8 was purchased with 900 miles on the clock. I put another 20k on the clock before I sold it. I am sure it was beat to hell during the first 900 miles. I was told by the stealership the car was returned because some fella couldn't get financing so go figure what he did after getting the call to bring the car back.
Well I continued to beat the sheet out of it and it held up very well.

Bottom line, the factory warranty was in effect for me and you too.

Enjoy the RS I enjoy mine.

the consumption depends on how you drive i drive my car really hard and it burns a 1/4 of oil in 3000miles and its modified it boosts all day 22psi and when adding race gas it goes up to 25psi

but when i drive normal every know and then some boost it doesnt burn oil!

Not to thread jack but, the dealer told me in Europe the Evos have a 1000 kilometer break in and so it was fine to consider the car broken in at 600 miles (the equivalent). Is this true?

The owner's manual that came with your car suggests a 600 mile break-in.

Damn, I wish I got 19 mpg on mixed driving. The best I get is 17 mpg. I wonder if something is wrong with it, or maybe just something wrong with my right foot...
