Daily commute question. What would you do?

I have two options for the drive to and from work everyday.

1. 95 percent highway with a 33 mile round trip.
2. 100 percent local traffic with a few congested intersections at 22 miles round trip.

Gas, brakes, clutch savings, etc... All that aside, I'd love to ride highway preferably but at an added 10 miles a day all that can add up. What would you guys do?

which one is more fun? Choose that one. I sometimes go out of my way to take some nice windy local backroads

None are fun because both are on the way to work! Stop signs and red lights are both common on the local trip :[. Looks like I'll have to suck it up and just rack on the highway mileage. I hope mitsu's paint isnt as bad as my subbies was T_T.

Sounds like it might be time to investigate other careers

Not really knowing the traffic patterns in your area, I'd lean toward the highway route. Stop and go = irritating.

Evo paint sucks.

Take the more enjoyable way. That's why you bought an Evo instead of a Camary, right?

You'll get better mileage and less wear + tear on the highway.

It isn't by mile, its by RPM and braking. How often do you brake on a straight road so wide that a 747 can land on it?

Unless, off course, you have to deal with rush hour.

11 extra miles a day adds up, but so does extra commute time. You would lose days out of your life every year by taking the city roads. My time is worth a lot more than simple wear & tear/depreciation on a car and I suspect yours is too.

Search for the seventeen other routes to work. My commute has evolved to where I face only one traffic signal and never get stacked in traffic or see a cop. It has taken me close to fifteen years to get this all worked out. Hey, it is something to do during the trip. Back alleys and parking lots are all fair game. Have fun.

I have about four different ways to get to/from work. Bumper to Bumper and rarely get up to hwy speeds. The other route is long with some nice long onramps to get the ponies excited. Either way its about the same time.
