CA dyno smog and the evo????????

I am in the bay area and have an appointment tomorrow at my local credit union to sign papers for an 03 evo I am buying private party. I of course want the car ASAP so agreed to take care of the smog as I will have 30 days to do so. the cars mods are:

- HKS HI Power Carbon Titanium stainless exhaust
- HKS Stainless Downpipe
- HKS Drop in element filter
- WORKS Hi-Flow Cat
- WORKS P2 Flash

will I have any problem with smog? and how can they smog an awd car considering that no one around here has a awd smog dyno?

At idle/in neutral, if I remember correctly from the last time that was asked.

That's correct, they don't put it on the dyno but it doest get the sniffer.

As long as you have a cat and your SES light isn't on you should be ok. Unless they can see that the downpipe is different.

Just ask the person running the test and tell them what you have ahead of time. They either wont care about your exhaust or they will.

they are going to do a complete smog, visual, functional and emmisions.

the test will be at idle and at 2500rpm (in neutral).

the downpipe, high flow cat and exhaust will fail visual. have to put it back to stock.

(catback exhaust will fail due to the fact the 2nd O2 sensor is located on the piping and you cannot modify any part of the emissions system unless their is a carb executive order # for the part.)

good luck and congrats on the car

You will not have to get the car smogged till 2008. new cars get a 5 year grace period. I know this evo is used but the first smog is required in 2008

true, but anytime there is a change of ownership, a smog check is required and its the sellers responsibilty. unless the car is traded into a dealer, then its the dealers.

2001 and older cars require smog checks only. Go to the dmv website and you can confirm it.

My credit union said they dont need proof of smog but the dmv will since the car isnt "new" its used and all tranfers of title require a smog. But maybe it different for you if your not in california?

Check this link...I think you will be exempt.

http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/StdPage....ck/doineed.htm

That being said....you would pass with your mods...not a visual but the sniffer. The smaller gas station smog places usually don't give a rip about mods as long as they are stockish looking and your car passes the sniffer.
