Not reading any others comment.....if your look for a car to make u feel comfortable when u need those moments an evo is not your pick.....I've been debating for about 2 years now m3 or an evo....These two cars are hard to compare to me...everyone that I have spoke to about it says get the BMW...not the m3 but the BMW...why...well everyone says BMW more this and that...why? Cuase thats what BMW is made for.. fast but with a style anyone can apreciate....Evo was built for the intent of WRC racing or some from of that racing. When people say oh I can race blah blah time in a quater miles I say so what?!?! If u want to race a straight line get a damn mustang or something thats made for a straight line. Evo made those few ajustments so it'd make the car and your times that much better....and if you still got an issue with it then I dunno know what to do with u..
PS...I'm drunk talkin out of my **** so yea.........

I've had mine since August and after 5800 miles, not a single problem (knock on wood) except she is a bit of an attention *****, which is going to get us in trouble one day, I'm sure... Between cops, ricers, kids and curious car fans, I get looks everywhere we go

This thread set my mind at ease. Hopefully my experience with the IX will be as good as most of the owners who posted on this thread. I plan to buy a RS on Tuesday, hopefully.

I Could Not Think Of A Better Car FOR The Price That Performs Like This...not One Single Problem (knock On Wood) Although Its Slightly Modded...

I don't want you to take my comments in ill-manner, but I feel as if your statements are one-sided....What I mean is that the Evolution is a rally car with a bullet-proof motor, a 100k mile drivetrain, and brakes that are the best brakes for anything standard-equiped in the price range...The Evolution also exceeds in virtually all racing forms (auto-x, road racing, rally competitions, and even drag racing)...
The SRT-4 on the other hand is a great platform for those who have a less-serious racing ideal and who want to make great power at an even a lower price...To me, the SRT-4 is a drag racing beast!!...MOPAR parts can be installed at your local dealer with a factory warranty, you seriously couldn't ask for more...It is very easy for srt-4s to spank cobras and corvettes in drag racing for a small ammount of money, so Evolutions should be considered an easy 'feat...This being said, there are many who buy the Evolution as a drag car...The motor and turbo are much better suited (especially in the IX) for modification than similar platforms and the aftermarket parts scene is sick (arguably the reason why most of us frequent the forum), but I don't feel that the drivetrain is setup from factory for drag racing as well as other platforms...Many who have tried to use our car for drag racing have experienced things as you have stated (clutch/flywheel upgrades, bad syncros) in addition to blown transfer cases and transmission repair...Some would argue this is "abuse," but I believe abuse is a relative-term, in that people compare what their previous car could handle in similar conditions (what is tolerable for certain cars may not be as tolerable for another)...Also, some people drag race constantly without any problem: I believe this is because they learn what abuse is in relation to the Evolution...
This being said, if you strictly use your car for drag racing (which I am assuming), I think you are using the wrong platform...I think the best platform for drag racing in the same price range is the 03-04 Cobra...They are easily modded to whatever HP you desire for an overall inexpensive price, with a very dependable setup in stock form...If you need four doors, I believe the SRT-4 was the perfect platform for your needs...
As far as brakes are concerned, the stock pads squealed horribly when I recieved the car, until I took my car to the track...Brake specialists have advised me that this is a characteristic of big-brake setups, and although aggravating it is almost better that they squeal and provide better performance...In fact, the larger you go, the more they squeal...As far as uneven tire-wear, I will say that my tires have worn in the same way as a FWD car, but not unevenly...
Anyway, I feel that our car is the most under-rated, versatile, factory racers available...If you do not participate in these sort of things, obviously there will be a better suited platform...This being said, do you think that the Evolution is a bad platform or simply has been a bad choice for your type of usage?

No issues with my IX SE (600 miles / 2 weeks).
After being on this forum for a few weeks now I can understand the dealership stance, the high rates and the LEO profiling. Not saying I agree with it but I know where they are comming from.
Thanks Mitsu for giving me an opporunity to enjoy this class of performace at such a bargain price.
Oh only regret, I should have stuck to my guns and got a full optioned MR SE but will do that on the X.

Why an Evo should be profiled more than a GTO or Rustang I'll never know; believe me, I've seen plenty of Rusty's fly by zipping in and out of traffic...and the owners weren't young punks either. No sir, genuine bald spots were behind the wheel.
With that out of the way, I'm almost to about 5k and still have no issues. Sure my tranny's a little notchy, but it's gotten a lot better as time has passed. And other than that, I have zero to complain about.

i regret it!!! i had an srt-4 with tons of mods..... i was spanking evo's left and right (stock evo's from a roll) that car never gave me problems. the evo on the other hand is too fragile.. i bought mine with 10k miles.. i have had it for two months now and i have replaced the clutch and flywheel. iam getting uneven tire ware ( after alignment) my inner trim pieces are starting to rattle. my syncros are going bad. my caliper is starting to peel... and im also getting brake noise ( pads are oem barely used)
OH! and did i mention i am paying $300 for insurance....
trust me i regret it!!!!!!

I consider the Evolution, really, a jack of all trades, and the master of none. If you love hitting the drag strip, there is something better than the EVO. Although, it'll rip up a road course, some say there are better cars suited for those conditions as well. You buy an Evolution because it is a road going rally car (ahem, road going.) It can perform, and perform, and then perform alittle more in all respects.
Also, this is an enthusiasts forum. Now, I'm not sure how many people on here equate to the total number of actual Evolutions out there, but I'm sure we are decent percentage. That being said, you are going to read alot more horror stories than you are of good ones. Nobody is going to post a topic saying "Oh man, my tranny doesn't look so I love my car!" Everybody else, however, is going to post a new thread nit-picking every little annoying nuance. Brakes peel/squeal, fluids leak, I launched my car about 20 times in a row and now my tranny/clutch is dead.
Point being. Every car is different, and that holds true for ALL manufacturers. You might get a car that God sent down from the heavens, or one that'll just test all your nerves.
Good luck!
