Why do people keep insisting that the Evo is based on the Mirage? The chassis is FAR from being an 'econobox' and to say that the Evo and Lancer have the same chassis is like saying that humans and monkeys are the same since we share so much of DNA in common.

To see this tripe from http://www.cobizmag.com/wheels.asp?wheel_ID=287 is something I would expect, but to see Car & Driver write :

"The World Rally Championship, for which the Evo was born, features standing starts, so the AWD drivetrain is up to the abuse; there, 7000-rpm clutch drops are the norm." <--- on a stock Evo, a 7000 rpm clutch drop is not the smart thing to do.

"All that power is mated to an unexpected four-door chassis (you may remember the econocar Mirage)" <-- Evo chassis = Mirage chassis?

I think that you are taking it the wrong way. Car & Driver was sayin that in WRC, they have 7000 RPM clutch drops at the start. Also, C&D was saying that our car basically shares an econo box chassis (the lancer.... just ours is beefed up) and that the Mirage was one of the old chassis to remember.

I wish that whenever they quote prices on these comparos that they would use invoice as opposed to MSRP. That is more realistic. Only an uninformed consumer would pay MSRP.

this is a stupid article, with a lot of innacurate information.

previously stated and still the most obvious imo - 5.1 0-60?

i think not.

Top speed (redline limited): 148 mph

i laughed at this too... esp since mitsu themselves says its electronic limited at 155...

and i've been 167 gps recorded in the car... and it would go even faster so redline limited part is a joke
