Well i have a problem today driving around me and a few freinds of mine noticed a noise in 1st gear that my car has if going slow, its kind of a howl, kind of like clicking not really sure on how to explain it but it only happens in first gear and when shifting to second it goes away, im gonna change my tranny and transfer case and rear diff fluids tomorrow to see if that helps if not what could it be?? Someone let me know if you experienced it with your car

 

Do you downshift into first while rolling, or any other time when not at a dead stop?

 

i would hope it happens when he down shifts

 

Oh ya forgot to ask.. Do you only hear it when you go from like Reverse to 1st, or vice versa?

 

Gear whine is normal on the first two gears at low speed the shape of the gear just is noisy at lower speeds. I suspect changing the fluids could dampen the noise to non existence if you found some good ones.

 

I have same thing. It even grinds between 1800-2000 RPM. 1st gear only. It also whines like reverse in 1st. Changed all the fluids, didn't help. Already drove around 15,000 miles like this.

Tried searching, came up with nothing

 

my 03 does it also and even after some racin the other night it didnt get worse

 

There should be a very slight whine on first. Also when you downshift from second to first without rev matching you should hear your syncros start to whine up. At least thats my experience.

 

yeah it happens when you downshift or if u go slowly in 1st gear cant source nothing but synchromesh today since my local shop is closed so might just change it with that and see what happens

 

mine started making noise in 1st and I kept driving and racing the car, got louder and louder, only in first btw, and eventually it go so loud that I decided to pull the tranny and when I was draining it chunks of metal were falling out (large ones) and so I sent it out to shepherd, not sure what it was just yet but I will know soon enough...

 

yea i get a noise when i have the clutch in a shift down to first when coming to a stop. my friends always think it sounds like a siren

 

how loud is it, mine was louder than the exhaust for most part, could easily hear it when i drove by...

 

Ultimate CC same thing happened to me drained the tranny and one tooth came out thru the drain hole, filled it up with fluid and now know not to launch it till i got the money to send it out to shep

So as most people say "SLIGHT" whine =OK but actually i dont remember if my car even whined in 1st when it was brand new, if it gets louder your bound to break something

so far broke the rear diff, now the tranny, next thing the transfer case i guess...
