AEM or Flash

In what context?
An AEM EMS is always better - it's a full standalone ECU, so that part is obvious. Whether it's worth the $2k + $500/tune for you to get those extra gains is up to you and typically depends on the setup. You didn't give us any details, so it's kinda hard to answer such a vague question.

You not only say "yall" in Texas, but you TYPE IT ALSO? It still doesn't give us much meat to chew on there "tex" . If you just happen to have the money, should you buy an AEM EMS? Use this as a "general" guileline: Stock ECU fine up to 375-400 AWHP. Get a Standalone after that hp level. (Which means bigger turbo to get to those #'s) Hope that helps. These numbers are NOT on a Dynodynamics Dyno

My first answer is that I don't like to spoonfeed people answers without making them think. People who just mod and don't think end up with crappy Evos that they know nothing about and don't understand when it breaks, so bear with me.
Ok, so why would you even ask this question? Do you know what a standalone ECU is and does? Is it not obvious that you would want to get LOTS of mods and a flash before even thinking about ripping out your perfectly good stock ECU? The most power that I know of on the stock ECU with a flash is 582whp without nitrous. Typically, people start worrying about upgrading to an AEM EMS when they cross the 500whp range, because the stock MAF becomes a restriction, and the ECU loses resolution. So, unless you're somwhere near that level of power, I would not suggest even letting it cross your mind.
However, if you ARE at that level of power with a big turbo running meth and big boost daily, then I would suggest CONSIDERING an AEM EMS. Like prostcj said, though, if you're asking this question, it's a safe bet that you should NOT be getting a standalone ECU. It's not a toy.

I got a question not totally off the subject....
I have a tbe and a drop in filter, thats pretty much all i'm ever going to do with the motor. Anyway, should i get a flash before installing any modifications that affect the engine? or just install everything without a flash?
Sorry for my newb question.

If you have to apologize for a newb question, it probably should not be asked until you've searched and until you've posted it as your own thread in the Newbie Forum. Remember that next time.
You should get flashed right after installing the TBE. You should probably at least add an MBC, too, but that's all you need for a Stg1 IX - it will be awesome and simple.

I wasn't harsh - I was direct. I gave all the answers, then gave him things to think about, so that he will hopefully think things through next time. Some people get upset and don't learn - others get the picture and grow. Everything said (including the tone) is for the purpose of helping the guy not ruin his car and waste money. Treating him like a baby and saying "coochie-coo" is not going to get the point across.

You should list your mods, and your plans. And also realize that if you want your Evo to be legal on the street for a while and pass any sort of emissions, AEM does not retain your OBD-II functionality (= failed emissions).
