Same thing happened to this girl I know last year. She had the defroster on in her van and we came out to see shattered glass. Goodluck man hope you get this sorted out.

I think rear is designed a little bit different. I know it shatters, where fron windshield cracks up

Sorry to hear,

Maybe it was a combo instigated by the cold and contact with your Mom's CRV??

It doesnt always happen, even the slightest shock will cause it to shatter, since the rear defroster is basically covering the entire rear windshield.

The front just has vents on the bottom blowing hot air onto it, my front one cracked right where the defroster was blowing the hot air onto it. Im going to assume the rear windshield is going to cost more than the front, because of the defroster, and the hole for the rear wiper. I could be wrong though, but good luck on this.

I remember reading another thread like this awhile back. Another guy broke his in his Evo due to the cold weather. Search it, you'll probably find it.

so... is this a common problem with our cars? the glass will just shatter if its too cold outside?

op: did you slam your door, or just shut it like you normally would?

So Nationwide still has $500 deductable. Now I called 2 glass companies:

One told me $164.50 installed, I asked to double check if that was for an Evo, cause Evo has rear wiper. She checked and said that I was right, it had a whole in the glass for the wiper and it came out to be $798.40 I asked them if they could cut the hole themselves and she said they couldnt. She told me that the glass from a regular Lancer would work for $164.40, but I would have to forget about the rear wiper.....

Another glass company told me $690 installed.........

Its nuts..... $500 just for the damn hole in the rear window?????

Shut it like normally. But then it would a little time for it to start cracking and shatter. When I got in it already shattered
