I got a Ticket for my Stock Exhaust

Who cares. Go to court over the matter. I'd say get Johnny Cochran but he's dead now. This is stupid and you should probably think about how many ricerboys he has to deal with every day. He probably saw your car and wanted to show "your type" that he was a figure of authority. What kind of ticket did he give you for the exhaust? Is it a fine or a just a warning?
Who cares if they are profiling? I hope they keep doing it. If I can't prove myself to be a bit different than Jimmy Ricer in his teh fast Civic then I deserve the ticket. I've been warned by Virginia cops before about my *stock* clear tail lights being illegal, along with my *stock* exhaust being too loud, and my *stock* wing being too large and obstructing my rear view. I actually started to chuckle at the cop and told him that I'd gladly show up in court to plead my side if he felt necessary. It's not the cop's job to interpret the law, only to enforce it.

The matter over a "modified" exhaust is soo blurry it's ridiculous. I got pulled over today by a police officer on Culver in the Irvine area for having a "possibly loud exhaust." Don't get me wrong, I am glad I was fortunate enough to get only a warning for my exhaust but his reasoning just dumbfounded me.
When he said he would let me off with a warning for my exhaust I asked him, "Was my exhaust too loud?" He said, "No, I appreciate the fact that you were respectful enough to drive calmly when you saw me. However, if you would have 'got on it' I am sure it would have been alot louder."
Granted I didn't want to argue with the man but this egged me that he assumed it would have been loud if I 'got on it.' Bear in mind I have the Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust with a cat still which I would argue is the closest sounding to stock than anything out there. I understand I am in the wrong for having a modified exhaust but pulling me over for a hypothetical situation just blew my mind.
If I 'got on it' with most other cars it would also emit a very audible sound. Does that mean those cars have a modified exhaust as well? And, to add to this before he graciously offered to give me a warning, he asked me if I had any intake modifications and all that under-the-hood junk. He asked me how long I had the car and eventually got around to asking if he could take a look under the hood.
I didn't have anything to worry about so I allowed him to look under my hood simply to comply and ease his mind. Ironically he asked me, "Do you have nitrous?" At that point I was about to laugh and respectfully said as I was standing outside the car with him because he asked me to open my hood and get out, "No. I don't have nitrous."
Personally, it seemed like he expected the "Fast & Furious" modified car that was sadly a bad way to view most Japanese cars. It is expected that an Evo that appears "ricey" with the big spoiler will attract that attention but to not be speeding or be bothering anybody in the neighborhood except those that would have been in the vicinity to have "potentially heard my exhaust" is just a waste of mine and his time.
Just my little rant for the evening.

BTW, to me it seems so easy for a police officer to simply say in court, "He took a picture of his exhaust after he changed it back to stock." The confusion is so blurry that it seems the only way to handle this matter to PROVE to anybody that during the time in question, the exhaust was stock is to take a picture with the cop standing next to it and a newspaper to seal the deal. Otherwise, I would imagine the cop would just argue you could have reverted back to stock in-between your citation and court date. In which case, you have no argument where that wasn't possible regardless of how your car comes with that "stock" exhaust because it is your word against his.

That ticket is easy to beat - especially if he used radar. Radar is not accurate within 3-5 miles per hour, so you that will be dropped in court (if you want to take the time to beat it). In Ohio at least, that ticket doesn't carry any points either.
You should take a time-stamped photo of your exhaust ASAP and claim there is no way you could have changed it back in that amount of time. I'm sure that could be thrown out in court as well.
If you need help beating your ticket, PM me or Google "beat my speeding ticket".

texas does not have a db reading or exhaust noise test as part of the state inspection process. when a vehicle is inspected in texas, only emissions and the condition of the exhaust system is taken into account. police officers do not issue inspection stickers, they only give citations for faulty equipment. for example hole in muffler, broken tail lights, missing muffler, illegal blue/red lights, etc. check out the following link: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/insp...Exhaust+System.
print it up and and highlight statements regarding noise and emissions. give a copy to the judge and officer. present it in court. you will get it dimissed beacause i did. no disrespect to police officers, but there is no way they can be familiar with every motor vehicle law on the books. the officer who ticketed me stated to the judge that it was illegal to modify exhausts in any way in the state of texas. that was before i handed him his copy of the inspection process.
good luck.

I got pulled over for a loud exhaust too (when mine was stock). I told him it was stock, he said it wasnt. He gave me a ticket for $65.00. I took it to my local Mitsubishi dealer the next day. Told the service manager the situation, he typed out a letter stating that it had a stock exhaust system (after raising it in the air an looking) i took it ot court on the day of the court date. The judge looked at it and cleared the ticket. made the officer look like a moron. I still cant believe he even showed up. I havent been bothered since, even with my new exhaust, lol. i think they are afraid of pulling me over now

i can't believe a cop wrote you a ticket for that. well, actually i can believe it, it's just hard to. you should just get the dimensions for the stock exhaust and bring those to court with you... if you can, try and get the court to come out to your car so you can prove to all of them that your exhaust is stock.
