You said you didn't race the Talon despite having 400whp, and you couldn't figure out that you were shifting the Evo too early. Is it because every car you've drag raced was automatic?
Yes, sorry... to clarify. My previous cars I took to the track were all automatic... 5.0 Mustang, 81 Z28, Grand Prix GTP...

Nothing nearly as fast as the TSi or the Evo, and all automatic.

The only reason I didn't take the Talon to the track is because I didn't own it long enough- lost my job and forced me to sell, plus the car was on it's way out and I could tell. I was young and blinded by the horsepower rating so I purchased without actually considering the consequences. I only owned it 4 or 5 months.

Apparently after I sold it, someone blew it up and resold it. This all happened with 6 months of me selling it.

I was racing, not just watching. I just had no track time in a manual. I suppose that is the problem.

Honestly, the shifting @ 7000 thing did cross my mind, I figured I was shifting too early, but I wanted to confirm instead of driving home with a broken drivetrain. I'd rather look like an idiot with a car in one piece than look like an idiot with my transmission in my trunk.

You just need to work on revmatch so the car drives like an automatic.. Your not suppose to just shift to 2nd and let go of the clutch..I shift to second and as I letting go of the clutch I am slowly pressing the gas..It took me awhile to get the timing for my car I use to press the gas way to early before..

Ok, that helps to clarify things.

You can still bust your trans with 7k shifts depending on how you do it. Just the way you describe it by calling it "dumping the clutch" does concern me, but that doesn't mean it's bad. When I am drag racing, I do full speed powershifts, so it's very fast and very nasty. Sometimes, the engagement is very harsh but other times I hit it just right. I've done it over 250 times so far without a problem, although my 6spd eventually lost 4th gear while road racing. Unless you're doing something really weird, I don't think you'll be able to hurt anything when shifting hard at 7k unless you grind the synchros.

Dumping the clutch was a bad way to put it.

It's more of a fast, swift re-engagement of the clutch from the full disengaged position.

What I've found:

When I dump the clutch in any gear(not including 1 and 2), at any RPM, the car lets out a pretty big jerk... I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or maybe I'm just mistaken...
I don't beat on my cars and I rarely drive them hard, but I was trying to see if I could get through the gears quickly. If I shift from 2-3 or 3-4 at around 4500-5500 rpm and drop the clutch after shifting... the car jerks. I didn't think the car should do that in such high gears at such high rpm... I thought only low speed clutch drops into 1st or 2nd would cause that...

I did do the clutch adjustment to my car due to a rather high engagement point(used, 18k miles on stock clutch), so I'm hoping that didn't cause anything.

The car seems to shift with no trouble although may be a little "notchy"... I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is notchy, but that I believe is unrelated....

Any suggestions?
If that would be V6 or V8 you wouldn't feel those jerks........My experience from having many cars.
Once you learn stick and cannot forget
