There are some more threads on it too. To a search for noise and warranty. There are two which talk about the same noise and one even has a vid.

From what i understand this happens to a lot of IX's. I happened to me to I replaced pulleys and belts but the noise returned. I am just going to let it be for now until I can find out what is causing this noise and keep it from coming back.

I have a 03 EVO VIII and it makes the whirring/scraping noise when started it sounds like a power steering pump running dry.......it does it on cold starts in the morning.

I just had my timing belt replaced with a kevlar one, and the tensioners and now I have the noise, I did not have this noise before the service. They didnt replace my pulleys though.

so does anyone really know what this noise is? I think its powersteering

I havent had that happen on mine yet, however i need to get my cold start map retuned because my car HATES running on cold mornings (below zero) and you literally HAVE to let it warm up for 5 minutes before the rpms will go over 3000. Sounds like a machine gun because the timing is retarded too much ( i think?)...pretty sure ive scared a few neighbors lol
