Cold start noise!

I am a noob to the car and I have a question. When you guys start your cars when they are cold and have been sitting, do they make a loud whine that slowly dies off as the rpms start and the car warms up? I am hoping this is normal, I just got the car last week.

Whew!! Thanks guys, I just want to make sure. I let my car get a bit warm before I drive and I let it get totally warm before boost is even thought about. Thanks for the quick responses.

I have heard this on my other cars, I think it has to do with the air intake. (Atleast, that seems to be what it is)

Don't quote me on that though.

It's not it. I have that too, and it's coming from passenger side - it's power steering

All my DSMs did it. I contributed it to the oil pump / PS pump and the oil being a little thick on cold days.

Update! I finally took the car in, they replaced the timing belt tensioner pully and the noise has now been gone for almost a week. Hopefully it will stay gone.

that good. let us know if the noise stays away forever because it sounds like a lot of evos are having the same problem.
