Question Why no rear stress bar on MR?

Does anyone know why the rear / trunk stress bar is not included on the MR? Most factory Evo performance parts are included on MR, why not rear / trunk stress bar?

Any ideas?

So you can still put your golf clubs and groceries in the trunk.

Base upon the photo's I've seen, rear stress bar is installed flush with the rear seat which still allows the use of golf clubs in the trunk

Are you talking about the trunk bar that is included with the RS? The one that mounts not across the strut mounts, but mounts on the floor of the trunk?

Don't know why it wasn't included with MR or GSR versions. I bought one @ the dealership for $40 and put in my GSR. It affected my alignment specs for the rear suspension after adding it. Not by much.

Yes, I'm referencing the RS trunk stress bar. I was quoted a higher price for the rear stress bar than you

A rear stress bar made a night and day difference in my '83 GTI. I'm guessing the rear stress bar in the Evo would be noticeable

Keep in mind, my GTI has a few less spot welds than the Evo

PM Spins4 on this forum. He's helpful and they have good pricing on evo parts. I think he quoted me $35 for the RS trunk bar and less than a buck each for the mounting bolts, $37 total.

Rear stress bar across the shock or cross brace below the trunk lock this one only comes on the RS and the rear pannel has to be modded for it to fit none come with the strut tower brace however either are sold and can be installed

How does it affect your alignment? I thought this was only to stiffin the chassis and not affect the alignment.

The MR has the softer Bilstein suspension. The GSR shares the same suspension as the RS, but the car is designed for daily driving use. The RS is the stripped down race version that is less street friendly.

Since the purpose of the bar is to stiffing up the rear and create more oversteer, I am assuming that Mitsu engineers left it off the MR and the GSR because they wanted the street versions to have less oversteer as an added margin of safety.

Tuning g's comment is perhaps the most likely explanation for a lack of the truck bar in non-RS models - the trunk trim would have to be modified in order for it to fit. FWIW, when I has a RS, I tried running it without a trunk bar and really couldn't feel a difference. OTOH, I felt very noticeable difference after installing the GTSpec trunk cage. Same goes for my SE with MR suspension. I originally installed the cage in hopes of lessening an unsettled feel in the rear of the car, and it does seem to make the Evo oversteer more.
